We had the good fortune of connecting with Martin Fine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Prior to starting my own business I was an assistant to an excellent photographer and the time allowed me to learn a lot of technical skills. My main thought was to have control of my own creative process and my own time schedule.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I initially fell in love with photography because it placed creativity in my hands by simply composing and pushing a button. I became so enamored with it that I decided to to go to art school and pursue photography as a career and as an artist. At that time I had no idea about what a career in photography looked like.
From the onset I wanted to make art from photography, and simultaneously make a professional career in commercial photography. From the creative perspective I was highly influenced by a few photographers who were able to make art images from their photographs by blending different images together. I was inspired to use photography as a start to making art by the likes of Pete Turner, Eric Meola and Mitchell Funk and others. So when Photoshop was created I jumped into the digital manipulation of my photography creating painterly looking art and reproducing as large prints.
Professionally I was able to achieve success as a commercial photographer shooting for Interior Designers, Advertising and Yacht Builders. My expertise prior to digital cameras was lighting which did set me apart from many others in that field. It was not an easy path as the career does require a lot of marketing.
currently I am retired and create art a full time. My years of experience have contributed tremendously and my art is created to be a contribution to Interior Design in Residential and Commercial spaces.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to Palm Beach, Worth Ave and to historical buildings in the area. Then go to explore beaches of Fort Lauderdale and Los Olas district to see all the galleries and restaurants. While there take a intercoastal boat ride. I would then suggest a couple days to explore the Everglades and if there is enough time a trip down to explore Miami, The Deco District and downtown. There are so many fine restaurants everywhere so dining will be treat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor was Dan Forer, terrific photographer in Miami. I was so fortunate to have learned from him because he taught me about dedication to quality whatever it took to get the shot right. And to trust my own creative process and to fight with clients who wanted to tell me how to do. One has to have an open ear to hear their suggestions but not to lose one’s own integrity. In the end it is your reputation at stake and clients ultimately appreciate all the effort to make them look good.
