We had the good fortune of connecting with Dolores Fazzino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dolores, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work-life balance has changed dramatically for me over time. Earlier in my healthcare career, especially working in surgery and high-pressure medical environments, balance often meant survival. I was deeply committed to taking care of everyone else, making sure everything ran smoothly, and constantly pushing through exhaustion because that’s what healthcare professionals were taught to do. I believed being productive and constantly available equaled value.

Over time, I realized that living that way disconnects you from yourself. You can be successful on paper and still feel depleted internally.

What shifted for me was understanding that balance is not about perfectly dividing your life into equal compartments. It’s about alignment. It’s about learning to honor your energy, your body, your intuition, and what truly matters in the season of life you are in.

Today, I think about balance very differently. I no longer chase “doing it all.” Instead, I ask:
“Does this nourish me, or deplete me?”
“Am I operating from obligation, or alignment?”
“Am I leaving space for myself while serving others?”

As a Nurse Practitioner, Medical Intuitive, and Energy Whisperer, I’ve learned that sustainable success cannot come from chronic self-abandonment. You cannot pour healing into others while continuously draining yourself.

Ironically, the more I stopped over-functioning and started listening to myself, the more impactful my work became. I became more present, more creative, more intuitive, and more effective with my clients and audience.

Balance for me now includes boundaries, spaciousness, joy, rest without guilt, connection to nature, time for reflection, and allowing life to support me instead of constantly feeling like I have to carry everything alone.

I also believe balance is fluid. There are seasons where work requires more of you and seasons where your personal life or healing takes priority. The key is awareness and self-honesty rather than perfection.

At this stage of my life, balance is less about managing time and more about managing energy and honoring truth. That has been one of the greatest lessons of my journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets my work apart is that I bridge the worlds of medicine, intuition, energy, and consciousness in a grounded and practical way. I have spent more than 45 years in healthcare and have participated in over 20,500 surgical procedures, which gave me a deep understanding of the human body, science, trauma, healing, and the emotional experience people go through in times of crisis and transformation. At the same time, I recognized there was something more happening beyond what traditional medicine could explain. That awareness opened the door to my intuitive and energetic gifts and ultimately shaped the work I do today as a Nurse Practitioner, Medical Intuitive, and Energy Whisperer.

What I am most proud of is helping people reconnect with themselves in ways they never thought possible. So many people spend years trying to fix themselves, believing they are broken, wrong, or not enough. My work helps people understand that healing is not about becoming someone else — it is about remembering who they truly are. I love helping people bridge the physical and the spiritual, the visible and the invisible, so they can move from surviving into truly living.

Professionally, my journey was anything but easy. I walked a very unconventional path. Early on, I learned how to function in high-pressure medical environments, including surgery and robotic surgery, where precision, focus, and resilience were critical. Yet internally, I often felt different. I could sense things others could not. I deeply felt people’s emotions, energy, and experiences long before the language around intuition and sensitivity became more accepted.

There were many times I questioned myself. I had to navigate skepticism, fear of judgment, and moments where I felt caught between two worlds — science and spirituality. For a long time, I tried to fit into boxes that were never designed for me. One of the greatest challenges was learning to trust myself and my inner knowing even when it did not make sense to others.

What helped me overcome those challenges was understanding that authenticity is more powerful than approval. I stopped trying to prove myself and instead allowed myself to fully embody who I truly am. I learned that sensitivity is not weakness — it is awareness. I learned that self-trust changes everything. And I learned that life becomes far more aligned when we stop abandoning ourselves to meet external expectations.

The greatest lessons I have learned along the way are:

You do not need to fix yourself to be worthy.
Your intuition is a powerful guidance system.
Healing happens when we reconnect with our truth, not when we endlessly chase perfection.
Challenges often become the doorway to our greatest purpose.
The more authentic we become, the more freedom we experience.

What I want the world to know about me, my brand, and my story is this: I am here to help people remember the power, wisdom, and wholeness that already exists within them. My work is about creating a bridge — between medicine and spirituality, logic and intuition, science and energy, fear and possibility.

I want people to know they are not broken, behind, or alone. Whether through my work, my teachings, or The Dr. Dolores Show, my mission is to create spaces where people feel seen, safe, empowered, and awakened to who they truly are.

At the end of the day, my story is really about transformation — learning to trust myself, honor my gifts, and give others permission to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to visit San Diego for a week, I would want them to experience the magic, beauty, peace, fun, and energy that makes this area so special to me. Not rushing around trying to “see everything,” but truly soaking in the experience and feeling of being here.

We would absolutely spend time at the beach — Coronado, Del Mar, Encinitas, La Jolla — walking barefoot in the sand, watching sunsets, riding bikes, having long conversations near the ocean, and simply slowing down enough to breathe again.

One of the first places I would take them would be the Self Realization Fellowship Hermitage & Meditation Gardens in Encinitas. It is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places overlooking the ocean. The energy there is calming, grounding, and deeply restorative. You can walk through the gardens, sit quietly overlooking the water, meditate, and just reconnect with yourself.

I would also take them to the San Diego Botanic Garden because it feels like walking through living art. The gardens are beautiful, expansive, and inspiring, and there is something very healing about being surrounded by nature there.

We would spend a day in Balboa Park wandering through the gardens, museums, and beautiful architecture, then head to Little Italy for dinner, rooftop drinks, and gelato.

La Jolla would definitely be on the list too — watching the sea lions, walking the cliffs, kayaking the caves, and catching sunset over the ocean.

Food-wise? Fresh seafood, fish tacos, amazing Mexican food, cozy coffee shops, and waterfront dining. Some places are casual little hidden gems, while others are beautiful restaurants overlooking the water. Honestly, some of the best moments are simply sitting outside with good food, great conversation, and ocean air.

I would also leave space for spontaneous adventures — maybe Julian for pie and mountain air, a drive up the coast on Highway 101, a sound healing or yoga class, or simply finding a quiet beach to watch the sunset.

To me, San Diego is not just about places to visit. It is about how you feel while you are here. The ocean, the beauty, the relaxed energy, the connection to nature — it all creates this feeling of coming back to yourself again.
