We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Loeb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOU” This is a deeply inspirational quote for me for many reasons. It reinforces that we are all unique beings with the power to think, feel and do anything our minds can imagine. There is a never-ending amount of health, wealth and success to create the life we desire. Instead of following in the footsteps of others or imitating their strengths and talents, try focusing on your own valuable abilities. Everyone has a special gift that can positively impact others. This is what makes the world so beautiful. Directing energy on our inner strengths can bring happiness, health and productivity. Doing so leads us to becoming who we are truly meant to be. We can also grow over time as we use our past mistakes as important life lessons. Some of my biggest lessons were learning to let go of things that no longer serve my highest good. I stopped comparing myself to others, addressed my fears, eliminated the need to control and redirected my negative thoughts as none have ever served me in any way. When you surrender to the Universe, getting your ego out of the way, you allow yourself to be The Best Version of You! Life is unpredictable. I live each day to the best of my ability by staying authentic and finding new things to excite and inspire myself. I have learned to live outside of my comfort zone….I know this is where the magic lies. I’m excited to see what tomorrow brings!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time Hairstylist and knew at a very young age that it was my passion. I love making people feel and look their very best. My clients are like family as so many of them have been loyal to me for decades. I am passionate about my job and, as another powerful quote goes, “When you love what you do you never work a day in your life.” I am a people person and thrive when I can interact and learn from others. I have been self-employed for more than 25 years and ran my own salon for 13 years. The hardest part in my career was deciding to sell my business. I learned owning a business is a huge commitment and you are an owner 24 hours a day, even on vacation. I let go of the extra responsibilities while still staying a self-employed hairstylist. This allowed me to pursue a fitness lifestyle that includes bodybuilding and competing in NPC bikini shows as a hobby. It is a decision I do not regret. I have the best of both worlds now – a balance of work and fitness. I find it to be a great combination. I feel everyone deserves to be happy and healthy. My dream is to inspire others and let them know it is never too late to live your best life. I recently celebrated my 55th birthday in the best shape I have ever been and will continue to be a better version of myself. When you shift your mindset to believing in yourself and following it with action, great things happen.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
San Diego is a fabulous city! We have it all…beaches, mountains and desert within reach for a variety of fun. I am more of a beach and mountain lover so I would recommend Torrey Pines, Coronado and Julian for tourists as a must see. We have some of the most beautiful spots in San Diego. I love this city. We have incredible restaurants and nightlife in the Hillcrest area. In South Park you will find a well-known and very busy restaurant called Buona Forchetta. It is one of my favorite Italian eateries with the nicest crew imaginable and a feel-good environment. Outdoor dining is available. For spectacular views, service and great food, I highly recommend Downtown San Diego’s Mr A’s…my favorite celebration and holiday spot. Balboa Park is another must see in San Diego. So many beautiful things to enjoy throughout the park including museums and historical sights. In my neighborhood city of La Mesa, I love to go to Casa de Pico for delicious Mexican food and it has a lively ambiance. Another great place is Farmers Table in the quaint village of La Mesa. It is always busy and I love the vibe and the food there. I could go on and on with my favorite places as I love my hometown!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love motivational speaker and teacher Gabby Bernstein. Her books are an incredible source of inspiration. Super Attractor is her latest and I encourage everyone to read it. Additionally, in the self-help and motivational arena, I have been reading books by Louise Hay since I was a teenager. Heal Your Life is a must read among many others. One of my newer finds has been listening to Master Sri Akarshana. His YouTube channel is a weekly go-to for meditation, guidance and inspiration.
