Hi Dr. Ellen, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At our practice, we believe that creating healthy smiles is about more than providing excellent dental care—it’s about making a positive, lasting impact on the lives of children and their families. Our mission is to help every child feel comfortable, confident, and excited about visiting the dentist by providing compassionate, personalized care in a welcoming environment.

We focus on preventive dentistry and early orthodontic intervention, helping children establish healthy oral habits that can benefit them for a lifetime. By educating both children and parents about oral health, we empower families to make informed decisions that support long-term wellness.

Beyond our office, we are committed to serving our community by building lasting relationships with local families, supporting children’s overall well-being, and creating positive dental experiences that reduce fear and anxiety. We believe that every child deserves access to high-quality, compassionate dental care, and we strive to make a meaningful difference—one healthy smile at a time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our practice was built on the belief that every child deserves a positive dental experience. We specialize in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, providing comprehensive care from a child’s first dental visit through their orthodontic journey. What sets us apart is our commitment to treating every patient like family. We take the time to build trust, ease anxiety, and create a fun, welcoming environment where children feel safe and parents feel confident in the care their child receives.

Like many small business owners, the journey has not always been easy. Growing a practice requires balancing patient care with the responsibilities of running a business, building a strong team, and continually adapting to changes in healthcare. There have been challenges along the way, but each one has reinforced the importance of perseverance, continuous learning, and surrounding yourself with people who share your values and vision. Every obstacle has been an opportunity to improve our systems, strengthen our team, and better serve our patients.

One of the lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t measured only by growth or milestones—it’s measured by the relationships you build and the difference you make in people’s lives. Seeing a child overcome their fear of the dentist, watching a patient gain confidence in their smile, or hearing parents tell us their child actually looks forward to their visits are the moments that remind us why we do what we do.

I want people to know that our practice is about much more than dentistry. We are committed to educating families, promoting lifelong oral health, and creating experiences that leave children with positive memories of dental care. Our goal is to make every visit one that builds confidence, trust, and healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We are incredibly grateful to be part of our community, and we remain dedicated to serving families with compassion, integrity, and excellence for many years to come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a week to show someone around San Diego, I’d want them to experience everything that makes this community so special—from the beautiful coastline to the incredible local food and family-friendly attractions.

We’d start by exploring La Jolla, walking along the coastline, watching the sea lions, and enjoying the ocean views before having lunch at one of the local restaurants. Another day would be dedicated to Balboa Park, where we could visit the museums, stroll through the gardens, and take in the rich history and culture. No visit would be complete without spending a day at the world-famous San Diego Zoo, which is always a favorite for both children and adults.

For a more relaxed afternoon, I’d head to Del Mar or Coronado to enjoy the beach, followed by dinner while watching the sunset over the Pacific. I’d also recommend visiting the USS Midway Museum and spending time exploring the waterfront and Seaport Village for shopping, entertainment, and great food.

When it comes to dining, San Diego has something for everyone. From fresh seafood and authentic Mexican cuisine to cozy cafés and family-owned restaurants, there’s no shortage of amazing places to eat. One of my favorite things about this area is how welcoming and family-oriented it is. Whether you’re hiking Torrey Pines, attending a local community event, or simply enjoying a beautiful day outdoors, there’s always something to do.

What I love most about San Diego is its sense of community. It’s a place where families can make lifelong memories, children can enjoy countless activities, and people genuinely care about supporting local businesses. That’s one of the reasons I’m so grateful to practice here—we’re fortunate to serve such an incredible community while enjoying everything this beautiful city has to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my incredible team, my family, and the families who trust us with their children’s care. Building a practice that focuses on pediatric dentistry and orthodontics has truly been a team effort. Every member of our office plays an important role in creating a welcoming, positive experience for our patients, and I am grateful for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to excellence.

I am also deeply thankful to the parents who place their confidence in us. Their trust inspires us to continue learning, growing, and providing the highest standard of care. Finally, I want to recognize the mentors and colleagues who have shared their knowledge and guidance throughout my career. Their support has shaped the dentist and practice owner I am today, and I am honored to pay that forward by helping children develop healthy, confident smiles that last a lifetime.
