We had the good fortune of connecting with Ma.Teresa Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ma.Teresa, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorite quotes is, “If you want to go somewhere you like, but no one else wants to go, go by yourself. You’ll meet people with similar interest as you.” This quote was so meaningful to me! Last year in January 2019 I won one ticket from @Kristin_Reveles giveaway to attend @femlatina conference here in San Diego. Femlatina Conference is a female empowerment movement founded and created by Jessie Medina. True believer in that the universe puts you in places you are meant to be in! I was so hesitant to go by myself, but this quote above inspired me to attend a life changing conference where I met a lot of women who I had so much in common with.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My love and passion is my small business which is creating gourmet confectionist chocolate favors. I can only dedicate part of my time to this since I also have a full time job. For the last 22 years I have worked in the shipyard industry as an Office/Accounting Manager for a small family owned business. In order to stay connected to my family, career, and business, I have learned to balance my time between the three so that I could continue to be the mother and wife that I have aspired to be. My family always comes first and I am thankful to have their support to grow with MKR Creations because it gives me peace, balance, and fuel that I need.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If my best friend was visiting the area as a tourist, the first spot I would take her to would be to go eat the BEST fish tacos in San Diego County, Mariscos German Beyer food truck. The next stop would be downtown Chula Vista to visit the local breweries! San Diego is a beautiful city with some pretty amazing beaches, so visiting our local beaches are a must. I have a big family and we have a good time together with lots of laughs and carne asada with them is always a good idea. I would also take my best friend to visit the local wineries in Baja California, Valle de Guadalupe. The Valle is also full of amazing food, such as restaurants like Finca Altozano, Fauna en Bruma, and Deckman’s. On the way home from the Valle we would do a quick stop in Tijuana to eat at Tacos el Frank. Shopping with my best friend is always a lot of fun, We would visit local small shops in North Park, such as mimi & red and Artelexia, while making a coffee stop at Holy Matcha. Ending our days at home with a nice glass of wine, beer, and Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia tequila will always be on our itinerary so we could relax, unwind, and have great conversations.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and for most I would like to thank my middle sister Kristy & my little sister Roxy, who are my pedestal, my support, my audience, my critics, my biggest fans, my best friends also know as my comadres lol! My sisters always have my back and I wouldn’t be able to be here without their love and support on any crazy idea I may have or just a shoulder to lean on anytime. I want to give a big shout out to a great friend too, who has been my mentor and that encourages me to continue doing what I love; Roni from Ronisugar Creations. I met Roni about 15 years ago through a mutual friend who introduced us and we connected right away. We realized that we had the same passion of creating gourmet desserts and we started attending events together and collaborating with others. I truly believe that we do not meet people by accident and I am grateful to have Roni as my friend. Roni and I have always agreed that there is enough room for all of us to grow which is why supporting and encouraging each other is important and a big part of who we are. Together we can do great things!
