We had the good fortune of connecting with Justina Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justina, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is a very important part of living a healthy life. I believe in working hard and doing the best I can at the job I am there to do. I give it my full time and attention. Early on in my career I had the extra time to dedicate but as the year went on and I became a mom and finding that balance became more important than ever. So now when I leave work, I leave work there. I must give my full time and attention to my family when I am home with them. I am a girl who likes to have fun in life and know how important it is to create memories, so I plan for fun and family time because that bonding that happens during these times are so beautiful and priceless. There are times when work needs more of my time and I understand that and put in the extra effort but at the same time, there are times when my personal life needs extra time and attention so I will give it that as well. I get enjoyment out of working hard and seeing progress and I like to have fun so finding that balance is key to living a healthy lifestyle.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being in the engineering profession is great! At TÜV SÜD every week looks different. There are times when I get to be in the lab testing and other times, I get to travel to conduct audits at our customers sites. Then there are times I write reports and learn new standards. It’s a good variety of activity. I am a growth minded person and at times engineering is really challenging for me, thankfully I work with a great team of very knowledgeable experts who are very willing to explain what it is I don’t understand and to show me as well. I am a hands-on kind of girl so that part is important to making it stick. A lot of our team has been in this industry for many, many years and carry a lot of experience. TÜV SÜD is a great place to work! They really care about their people, have a lot of the industry’s top leading professionals. They provide opportunity for advancement as well as having an element of diversity I don’t see at a lot of companies. During this COVID pandemic most employees have transitioned to working from home. In order to keep up employee morale TÜV SÜD has developed the Connect UP Virtual Meetups every Friday. All employees are welcome to join, we talk on personal and professional topics. It’s a big open conversation and we have been able to meet colleagues whose paths may not have crossed otherwise, as we work in different divisions, states and countries. I am also active with the Society of Women Engineers and mentoring high school girl interested in pursuing a career in engineering.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
The waterfront is beautiful! From Shelter Island and Point Loma to Embarcadero and Sea Port Village, you’ll get a great taste of San Diego. I love Little Italy; it has great atmosphere. Some of the best restaurants and dessert places. Old Town has such great history on San Diego and not to mention you can get homemade tortillas. Coronado is a fun place to spend some time and ride around the bay. At sunset I recommend Shelter Island. You get a great view of the city and it lights up beautifully at the golden time of day. On Sundays I enjoy spending my time at The Rock Church. They have great worship and an amazing Senior Pastor and very welcoming atmosphere! It’s a very special place and you’ll walk out of there filled up!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shout out to my husband Christopher! He is so supportive with everything I am involved in and we work together as well and make a great team. Also I’d like to shoutout my mom Debbie Vega, she has been so supportive in every area of life and the best Grammy to my daughter Lillyan!! She is always smiling and so kind and loving to everyone she meets! I am very blessed to have her as my mom. Another Shoutout to my dear friend Jeanette Bradley! She has been such wonderful and supportive friend. She carries so much wisdom and radiates love everywhere she goes! She and I have partnered together in starting Radiant Pearls Ministries, Our mission is to be a bridge of hope that helps women fulfill their purpose and calling, through Biblical training and mentoring we empower women through a process of healing and growth to reach their ultimate potential! It’s a talk show style program and we have amazing women on to share their stories as well. It’s been a fun experience!! Be on the lookout for our commercials on FOX 5 Sunday mornings from Father’s Day through August 30th, 2020 and check our socials for the show rollouts. On a professional note I want to give big shoutout to Katie Greenwood who has been my coach over the last year. She is our Talent and Development Director and a certified Dale Carnegie Master Trainor. She has helped grow me in so many ways, like in public speaking and facilitating events. Katie makes it seem so natural and is great at what she does! It been awesome working alongside her a learning from her. I also want to give a shoutout to my boss Adrian Rabago. He is such a great leader and so smart technically. I learn a lot from working under him. Adrian has been very supportive of my goals and given me opportunities to grow in my profession that I have been able to utilize both personally and professionally.
