Through our work we have been constantly amazed at the incredible things people in every neighborhood are working on. What’s even more exciting is that they all have different stories, backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses. That there isn’t a single formula for success means that everyone can take their unique set of strengths and characteristics and turn it into a success story. We recently reached out to some folks we admire and asked them what characteristics they feel are responsible for their success.

Kimberly Bertrand | Esthetician and Entrepreneur

Trusting myself and letting my intuition really drive my decision making, even when it was super scary. This might not be a conventional answer, but I found that somehow I always knew which moves to make and when. I never went against my gut! Thanks to this, I have employed the same two estheticians since opening in 2017, we have our dream location right on the beach, and our product line and business continue to grow. Read more>>

Ruby Malamed | Board of Director & Marketing Coordinator

I believe that the most important factor behind the success of The GirlNow Foundation is our team’s dedication and genuine passion for the work that we are doing. We are fervently working everyday towards building an equitable future for girls in Uganda, so that they can thrive both economically and in their personal lives. For me, the reason I began working for GirlNow and what keeps me motivated as a team member, is knowing that my contributions are resulting in effective change in the lives of women in Uganda. Although GirlNow is a fairly new non-profit, it has been inspiring and eye-opening to see how much progress we have made over the past few months. Without the love and commitment that each individual team member and leader has given to this organization, I firmly believe that we would not be where we are today. Read more>>

Marco San Antonio | Sign Artist & Business Owner

One Day Signs has been successful in our industry for over 30 years by working hard to get the customer the most effective signage possible for their dollar. It doesn’t sound sexy does it? Although we do make some really sexy signs. The mark of a great sign shop isn’t just making everything the customer wants, but educating them on why a design won’t work, or how to make a sign with more impact. What we have run into, is that customers want to put too much into a sign, whether that is too much verbiage, or too much flash and design tricks. We translate what they envision in their mind into an effective sign design and product using our years of experience, of both doing things right, and also having our fair share of learning experiences to make a better product or experience for the next customer. The bottom line is, are we able to continue translating our customers money spent, into signs that convey the personality and message of their company into more customers in the door and revenue for them, then I think we can tack that up to another customer satisfied. Amanda Hayami, Caitlen Cusimano, Kamber Fishbein, Sydney Ellen, Patrick Hudson, Stevie Bowden | Band members of The Leftovers

Our friendship is what really makes us unique and successful. We’re not just bandmates; we love being around each other and playing music together, and it shows. Since day one, we’ve had fun, and we continue to keep that as one of our biggest priorities. We’re all super goofy and enjoy creating a vibe that is upbeat and danceable that anyone can enjoy. Whether it’s mid-song or during a break, we love interacting with our audience, encouraging them to get on the dance floor and have fun. Although we like to keep things silly, our gigs would not be possible without our existing musical skills and training that we constantly work on together and individually. We’re always excited to add new songs, not only to keep our sets fresh, but also to challenge ourselves, keeping us engaged in our craft. Through The Leftovers, we’ve built a family of tight-knit musicians that extends from past members to friends that we feature at our shows. It can be tough maintaining a six-person band, but being friends makes it easy. Read more>>

Luis Patino | Artist

The most important factor behind my success is to be confident with my work and what I produce. Being constantly negative with yourself will not take you far, instead, hold you back on your dreams and goals. I used to be so negative with my work and put too much thought into what others would think. The only thing that came out of this is that it made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. I then realized that I enjoyed what I am doing and that I shouldn’t stop just because of what someone might think. Being confident in my work has helped me be more creative and successful with my brand. Read more>>
