We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiff Artis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiff, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I think it was a no brainer for me. I started my first personal training business in Virginia back in 2013. It was almost as if the universe pushed me to do this on my own. I have worked for a couple of corporate gyms in the past, and because of my skill level they were charging 100+ dollars per hour. I was only seeing a very small percentage of that. After almost 2 years here in San Diego, I decided to take the risk and go for it on my own. Best decision I ever made. You’re never going to feel ready enough to go for it, but life kind of pushes you in the directions that you need to go. When you listen it all works out.

Besides the obvious monetary difference between doing this for a corporate business versus doing it for yourself, there’s always been a purpose behind why I do this. After taking a break from college I worked in a rehab facility and I really saw the effects of poor health, what that can do for you in the long run, and how that can affect your level of independence as you age. I wanted to be on the preventative side of health, and provide access to people and communities that may not be able to get the preventative care that they need. I decided to go back to college after that, and I changed my major to Exercise Physiology. I actually had no idea that I would end up being a personal trainer – there are so many things you can do with a degree in Exercise Physiology. After getting myself into shape one semester people just started asking for my help, and that’s kind of how this all started. I always knew that I would be a business owner one day. I had been saying that since 2009, when I started taking my first clients in Virginia.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have a personal training business, Elite Results Training located in Mission Valley.

What sets us apart most is how much we are truly invested in the success of our clients, and how dense the level of education is in the gym. Clients get to learn how to lift properly with adequate attention from coaches to ensure proper lifting form and guaranteed results.

I’ve been doing this since 2009, so we definitely bring experience to the table, which is why the results are guaranteed. I knew that and moving to San Diego that I would eventually start a business, and I would be lying to you if I said it wasn’t hard. This company started just eight months before Covid, and with the power of technology we have made it through. That was a huge challenge to overcome, but because of that challenge we now have an online training portion that allows people from all over the work to join in on our programs.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the years as clients don’t care about how much you know- they care about how much you care. Anyone can learn the information, but you have a to care enough to even take the time to learn.

If there’s anything I’d like people to know about my brand or story is that it wasn’t easy, I faced many obstacles, and I’ve never let any of them hold me back from my goals. As my clients watch me grow and overcome obstacles it encourages and inspires them to do the same thing in their lives, and that’s all I’m really here to do is be a vessel so that people can see what’s possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely one of the first places that we’re gonna have to check out would be La Jolla. I always like to start there. I would totally start out with the sea lions, then showing them the view of Black’s Beach and coastline from right there which is breathtaking. I would stop by Georges at the Cove, have a quick cocktail/light snack, and then I will take the scenic route back to show them Kate sessions park. Coming down to PB the amazing view that you can see coming out of the backside of the La Jolla is one you can’t miss.

I will then just drive down through Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and then head over to Ocean Beach for some burgers at Hodad’s. There’s so many cool places in Ocean Beach so will probably be there for a while today in Sunset Cliffs at course.

Definitely have to show them the Little Italy area taking them to some of the top restaurants in San Diego like Born and Raised, in Morning Glory.

Hopefully they’re here over the weekend and we can hit Booty Bassment in South Park, the numerous clubs and bars in hill crest, and probably my least favorite but definitely a must see downtown San Diego at night.

I love to have fun and play games so we would for sure hit up Some fun down bars by Triple Crown Pub in Normal Heights.

Depending on how much time we have we could even take a quick trip over to Mexico for dinner at Mr. Pampas or Caesars.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You know I’ve been very fortunate and have a good support system during my journey here in San Diego. Extra special shout out to Alex Medina at Fit2Ripped in Mission Valley. He has always been a open book to just sharing his experience as a business owner here in the San Diego fitness industry, and just an all-around great resource to have with me being so new here.

You know this isn’t my first rodeo with this fitness business thing, but always want to give a special thanks and special recognition to the Sports Performance Department at Virginia Commonwealth University, my mentor Tim Kontos, SPARK physiotherapy, and Dr. Carlos Berio.
