What role has risk taking played in your life or career?

In our experience, most folks, including ourselves don’t have enough of an understanding of risk and the role it plays in our lives and careers and so we have made a concerted effort as a team to have conversations about risk with our interviewees. We’ve shared some highlights below.
Taking risks can reveal areas in your life that are in need of improvement, and they also reveal areas of strength. Without risk, you may not even realize these areas exist. Learning your strengths and your weaknesses through risks, are crucial to bettering your career and personal life. Even before I began my creative career, I spent years taking risk after risk on a football field. I played 4 years of division 1 football in the SEC at Vanderbilt University. All my life I have been taking “risks”. I do not consider myself a risktaker! Rather I am confident that what I am about to do will be successful. Believing in yourself is crucial to creating the life, love and career you desire. Being able to recognize your gut feelings and abilities takes confidence and I live my life from a place of confidence and knowing what I am capable of. Raising my son mostly on my own, starting a fitness business, being my son’s coach and manager when he was acting, being an actress myself and coaching other actors were things that just were a natural progression in my opinion. Wow what a great question ask me! First of all and to be very clear there are stupid risks and there are calculated ones. I generally like to take the calculated ones and try to avoid the stupid risks. Of course that’s all arbitrary right? I have done things from wing walking on a biplane, to free diving, to shark diving out of the cage with great whites, to skydiving, to hang gliding, and people seem to think I am an adrenaline junkie or I take all of these stupid risks. In fact the way I see it as I only take calculated once. Let’s take the wing walking for example. The school I went to trains about 90% of the worlds wing walkers and he has never dropped anyone. I know that the technical term is “taking risk” , but I prefer to say “taking a leap of faith”. This quality that I have inside me to just go for it has gotten me where I am today! Taking risks is literally the most important thing you can do while in pursuit of your dream(s). Understanding that gut feeling you are having is communication from the universe. You were led to THIS particular opportunity to make THIS decision that could be very intricate into where you are going. Become comfortable with the unknown and remain in belief of the highest version of yourself that you see.
