We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Arco, Nha Truong, & Margot Salgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denise Nha and Magot, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The Babes Who Study helps the community/the world because we help encourage women in the pursuit of their goals, especially as they pertain to higher education. We also aim to dismantle hustle culture and promote a healthy lifestyle. We believe that advertising healthy work/life boundaries and modeling authentic self-care reminds women of the importance of their mental health as they pursue their educational and career endeavors. We work towards encouraging other women in their studies and foster a space that promote a holistic lifestyle by serving as mentors, providing productivity/study hacks, college success tips, and mental health resources/wellness tips.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We feel what sets us apart from other study/college/motivation accounts is that we try to encourage others to lead a holistic life as they pursue higher education. We live in a society that highly praises “the grind” and the idea of working 24/7 is celebrated, and we work to challenge that. We strive to show our Babes that success can be achieved while still caring for yourself and tending to other areas of your life. Therefore, our page showcases not only study tips, but also wellness tips.

We are most proud and excited about all the collaborations that we got to do with other people and companies. It has been such a joy for us to encourage and empower others through our collaborations.

It was not easy to get to where we are today. We had to navigate setting up boundaries within this shared project and our friendship. We also had to learn to set up boundaries between The Babes Who Study and our personal lives. I think communication really helped us get past this and adopt healthier habits as a team. We want the world to know that above our work, our friendship is at the foundation of all that we do, and it is something we continue to foster first and foremost

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is such a fun question. A lot of times, we love playing tourists ourselves in this beautiful city we call San Diego! With so many creative small businesses, being close to the water, and having access to the mountains, it’s easy to be entertained here. For a friend who enjoys coffee we would take them to South Park’s Communal Coffee, Garden Coffee (cutest & coziest-blanket-for-soul coffee shop ever and the baristas and owner are super sweet), and Holsem Coffee in North Park. For a friend who loves the waters, going on a beach stroll on the La Jolla Coast Walk Trail or Torrey Pines. For a friend craving a small-town vibe, checking out Main Street Julian and munching on apple pies. And for a friend who appreciates food as much as I do, taking them to Liberty Station (Point Loma’s food hall) or our absolute favorite Buona Forchetta (Italian Restaurant).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, we consider ourselves daughters of Christ and we want to recognize that The Babes Who Study would not be where it is today without God’s hand in it. Second, the mentors that have supported us throughout the way deserve the shoutout. Mentors come in many forms and differ in each season of our lives. Sometimes our mentor is a friend holding our hand through a difficult season, sometimes it is a spiritual mentor who fosters our identity in Christ, other times it is a professional mentor helping us establish ourselves in the workforce. Finally, our loved ones have been a huge support during both our academic journeys and our The Babes Who Study journey. They have supported us by liking, commenting, and sharing our posts; they have shared about who we are to their network. From God to our mentors to our loved one, they all have been so wildly gracious and kind to us.
