We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Polley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tara, how does your business help the community?
I created The HauteSheet television show as an extension of my real estate business, to tell meaningful stories that strengthen connection between people, places, and community. At its core, the show exists to spotlight the individuals and organizations doing work that improves lives, preserves culture, and creates positive impact in the regions we feature.

Through national distribution, The HauteSheet gives local businesses, nonprofit leaders, chefs, artists, entrepreneurs, and community advocates a platform that extends far beyond traditional local media. By elevating these voices to a wider audience, we help drive tourism, economic support, and visibility for small businesses and mission-driven organizations that are essential to thriving communities.

Philanthropy is also woven directly into the brand. The HauteSheet regularly partners with charitable organizations and community initiatives, using storytelling and events to raise awareness, encourage participation, and generate tangible support. Rather than focusing solely on luxury or lifestyle aesthetics, the show highlights purpose, resilience, and the human stories behind success.

Our goal is simple: create media that leaves people more connected to where they live, more inspired by what others are building, and more motivated to contribute to their own communities. By choosing storytelling that emphasizes collaboration, generosity, and local impact, The HauteSheet helps shift media toward optimism, authenticity, and meaningful engagement.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has never followed a straight line. It was shaped early by constant change. Growing up, my mother and I moved frequently as she worked to create opportunity and stability for our family. Starting over again and again taught me adaptability, resilience, and how to connect with people quickly. More importantly, it gave me a deep understanding of what home represents beyond a physical structure. Home is security, identity, and a place where people rebuild their lives.

That understanding is what led me into real estate. I initially entered the industry to support my family, but it quickly became a calling. Helping people find stability and create a foundation for their future felt meaningful because I understood firsthand how much environment and belonging matter. Over more than two decades, I built my business by focusing on relationships, storytelling, and advocacy rather than treating real estate as a purely transactional profession. What sets my work apart is the belief that every property and every client carries a story worth honoring.

My career expanded in an unexpected way when I became a host on The American Dream, an Emmy-nominated lifestyle television show. Through that experience, I saw the power media has to shape perception and community pride. I was meeting entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, chefs, and visionaries whose stories deserved thoughtful, uplifting coverage. That realization led me to create The HauteSheet, a nationally distributed lifestyle series built around positive media and intentional storytelling. The show highlights people and places making meaningful contributions, with the goal of creating media that connects rather than divides.

Alongside real estate and television, public speaking became a natural extension of my work. My keynote, The Confidence Conspiracy, explores how many capable people quietly play small, not because they lack talent, but because visibility feels uncomfortable or undeserved. Drawing from my own experiences, including uncertainty, reinvention, and learning to step into leadership publicly, I focus on helping others understand that confidence is not something you are born with. It is built through action, resilience, and the willingness to be seen before you feel fully ready.

The journey has not been easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I have navigated financial pressure, reinvention, self-doubt, and the challenge of building something new while maintaining existing responsibilities. The biggest obstacles were often internal, learning to trust my voice, take creative risks, and pursue opportunities that did not come with guaranteed outcomes. I overcame those challenges by staying anchored to purpose, surrounding myself with people who value growth, and treating setbacks as information rather than failure.

The most important lesson I have learned is that success is less about perfection and more about alignment. When your work reflects your values, momentum follows. I want the world to know that my brand is built on authenticity, integrity, and connection. Whether through real estate, media, or speaking, my goal is to elevate stories that matter, help people feel seen, and remind audiences that meaningful success is measured not only by achievement, but by impact and contribution.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a close friend were visiting for a week, I would design the trip around what makes Wine Country special beyond wine itself, the feeling of slowing down, connecting with people, and experiencing places that are thoughtful, beautiful, and deeply rooted in the region.

Day 1–2: Settle into Sebastopol life
I would start by checking them into Zegarra Estate, a stunning retreat that captures the creative, relaxed spirit of West County. For guests who want a curated luxury stay anywhere in the region, I often recommend Vinifera Luxury Property Management, which specializes in high-end vacation homes that feel private and intentional rather than transactional.

The first evening would be about unwinding. Instead of going out, I would bring Wine Country to the house with Goodness Gracious Private Chef for an in-home dining experience. A private chef dinner changes the pace of a trip immediately. You linger longer, open meaningful bottles of wine, and actually connect.

Day 3: Explore Sonoma Valley actively
The next day would shift into exploration with Vine and Vista E‑Bike Tours. Riding through Kenwood by e-bike lets visitors experience vineyards, oak-studded hills, and hidden roads you would never discover by car. It feels immersive without being exhausting, and the guides introduce you to smaller producers and local stories along the way.

A late afternoon stop at Chateau St. Jean Winery is essential. The grounds are classic Sonoma elegance, relaxed but refined, and perfect for a long seated tasting as the light changes across the vineyards.

Day 4–5: Healdsburg energy and culinary excellence
Midweek, I would head north to Healdsburg, which perfectly balances sophistication and small-town charm. Lunch or dinner at The Matheson is a must. It captures the modern culinary identity of Wine Country with incredible rooftop views and a vibrant atmosphere.

Right nearby, Appellation Healdsburg represents the next evolution of destination dining, hyper-local ingredients, intentional design, and a strong connection to the agricultural roots of the region. It is the kind of place where visitors understand why people fall in love with Sonoma County.

Day 6: Slow moments and local discovery
This day would be intentionally unscheduled. Coffee in a small town plaza, boutique shopping, spontaneous winery stops, maybe an art gallery or farmers market depending on the season. The magic of Wine Country often happens between plans.

Day 7: A closing night worth remembering
The final evening would return to wherever they are staying, opening favorite bottles collected throughout the week and recreating the feeling that makes people want to come back: relaxed luxury, meaningful conversation, and the sense that life can move at a more intentional pace.

What makes this region special is not just the scenery or food. It is the people behind it. Winemakers, chefs, guides, and hospitality leaders who care deeply about craft and community. The best itinerary here is not about rushing between destinations. It is about experiencing places that feel personal, where visitors leave feeling connected rather than simply entertained.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would dedicate this shoutout to the community builders and quiet champions who believe in people before the world sees their potential.

Throughout my career, there have been mentors, colleagues, clients, and friends who offered encouragement at pivotal moments, sometimes with a single conversation or a simple vote of confidence that changed my trajectory. Those moments matter more than most people realize. Success rarely comes from one breakthrough. It comes from a series of people who open doors, share wisdom, challenge you to think bigger, or stand beside you when you are still figuring things out.

I also credit the entrepreneurs, creatives, and local leaders I have had the privilege of featuring through my work. Their willingness to share honest stories about risk, failure, reinvention, and purpose has shaped how I see leadership and success. Watching people build meaningful lives and businesses with integrity continually reinforces why storytelling matters.

And finally, I would recognize my family and close circle, who have supported a career that often requires long hours, creative risk, and belief in ideas before they fully exist. Behind every visible accomplishment is a network of people providing patience, perspective, and grounding.

No one builds anything meaningful alone. Every chapter of my story reflects the influence of people who chose encouragement over skepticism and collaboration over competition, and they deserve as much credit as any milestone attached to my name.
