We had the good fortune of connecting with SHELBY LIGMAN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SHELBY, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
When it comes down to it, I know that there will be bad days. It’s inevitable. However I also know all my great days outweigh the terrible ones. When you know this is all you have you also know that you have no option to quit. Which is true, going through beauty school at 26 I knew that this HAD to work. I think being in the mentality of always making it work when it comes to something you love has pushed me to never quit and to keep going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Communication I think would set me apart. Being clear on what can and cannot work is something my clients love about me. Emailing and messaging back future brides in a timely manner is something that is high on my priority list. Customer service is everything in this field which I find sometimes is forgotten. I don’t think getting to your dreams is ever easy. But again knowing that if this didn’t work out I’d be highly disappointed in myself. The one thing that stuck in my head since beauty school was that we were going to have to hustle and that clients don’t just fall into your lap. I think working with individuals who are determined to making their clientele happy really helps me separate myself from the others. In the end if they are not confident than I haven’t done my job right.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would for sure start with some food. I love trying new restaurants. Follow that up with visiting the Zoo (One of my favorites) & Balboa Park. I’m such a nerd I love museums, old architecture and animals. I’d take them to everything that is outside, because we honestly have the best weather. What is better than sitting outside and chatting with your best friend? I’ll wait..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fiancee would for sure take the cake on this one. He’s always encouraging me to push myself. Having that support system at home and understanding what it takes to get where I want is everything to me. Sometimes it’s not even when he’s let me practice fades on him. It’s the little things here and there that he does to keep our household running when all I want to do is come and sleep after a 13 hour day. Everyone needs someone like that in their life.
