We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sergio, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
This is a very easy question to answer for me as I have learned one simple fact from the late great mentor Jim Rohn: Work hard at your job and you can make a living. Work hard on yourself and you can make a fortune. What do I like to do that will make people feel something? CREATE! It was a slow process being able to pay my bills with a paintbrush but I live well, travel, invest, and continue to keep building my business and talents. I think most people don’t start their own businesses because of fear. And fear is a good thing! When you’re fearful to do something but you muster up the courage and take one step, the second step becomes easier. Then the third step may not be easier than the second step, but at least you have more confidence and knowledge than when you first began the journey of starting your own business. Also, if you’re keen on seeking opportunity and leveraging what you have, you can grow any business quicker than you ever thought. Not to say that growing a business quickly is the only goal, but many people don’t start because they feel alone. You’re not alone. You would be surprised how many of the people you know, know others that can help you with what you need in order to grow. one more thought process is; I want to go through the process of starting a thriving company in order to pass on the keys to success to others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the main thing that sets me apart from many other artists is that I performa a live show to where I do both Live Music and Live Art! This unique show has taken me around the world and has given me the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars for charity. The most notable being a live painting of John Lennon after singing and playing “Imagine” in front of a live audience. The painting went on to raising $37,000 and 100% was given away to baby Jack, who was in the hospital fighting for his life. (Youtube Video: https://youtu.be/Kr16YByoZyk) I got to where I am professionally by working on my craft with laser focus, being punctual, going the extra mile without “being paid” to do so, and giving! When you can take what you do and love and help others, its very true that it comes back to you. Once I trusted that, the flood gates were unhinged! Of course its not easy. When you start anything, many will doubt you. Because what are most people doing in life? I can tell you that the majority are definitely not doing what they want to do. So, It was learning how to shut that noise out. Ive had countless people tell me that Im just a small town boy from New Mexico and that moving to California to make a living as an artist. It may have been impossible to them, but to me, I always had my eye on the prize and opened my mind to opportunity. Its everywhere! I want the people to know that they have endless potential. To realize that no one has ever found a cap to human potential. To know that its ok to be fearful, but it is our duty to use what God (the universe etc) has given us. To not let ideas, talents, and abilities go to our graves. And its all starts with how we view ourselves. Self image, when worked on, on a daily basis, can take that human potential to places never traveled!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to visit my friend Jerome Gastadi. He is an artist with a ranch out in Fallbrook, CA where he creates magical pieces and has visitors come from all direction to be on the grounds of this incredible place. I would take them to my favorite sushi spot, Blue Ocean, in Carlsbad, CA. Get the fresh King Salmon with black pepper and some light cocktails. Wine tasting in Temecula, CA is always a blast in that there are several beautiful wineries to bounce around. Every visit has beautifully been littered with meeting new folks, experiencing live music, great food…Its a guaranteed magnificent time!
