We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Bove and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My inspiration to launch my own business was prompted by two significant things. The first was that I wanted the freedom of an online business so I could prioritize the things that were most important to me, specifically spending time with my family and prioritizing my health. It’s always been appealing to me to build a business around my life rather than a life around my business. The second was the lack of business mentors out there concerned with not only the health of the company but the health of the founder. My first ever “real job” was as the CEO of a health food startup and while it was amazing, I burnt out hard. I realized that while I had strategic support from mentors and investors, nobody was asking me how I was doing personally or coping with the enormous responsibility and stress of my role. It took me almost a year to recover and while I was healing, I knew part of my purpose would be to help entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground, without sacrificing their health or mental wellbeing. This is why I integrate mindfulness practices in my 1:1 coaching and in my online business accelerator, ZenBoss Academy.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One of the most unique aspects of our online business school, ZenBoss Academy, is that everything we teach is customized for entrepreneurs in the health, wellness, mindfulness, personal development, and spiritual spaces. We focus on permission-based sales and marketing that equips business owners with the confidence they need to promote their services.
ZenBoss Academy is also unique in how well-rounded our curriculum is. It teaches students how to find your niche, connect with your dream clients, package your service or digital product, utilize social media marketing, conduct sales conversations, and successfully launch your offer– all with the help of a supportive community and coach.
I am very proud of the results our ZBA graduates have. They come out with not only the sales and marketing strategies they are looking for but also the mindset tools needed in order to step into a successful business owner.
At the heart of my business is meaningful relationships. This may sound simple, but I am quite intentional about how I nurture my relationships. I keep a list of everyone in my network both professionally and personally that I may be able to help in some way. I am definitely known as a connector and encourage my students to do the same. Send people referrals, connect them to people they think would be interested in their business, etc. It’s a super simple and fun way to generate good business karma and grow a powerful network. It’s only a matter of time before someone opens up a major door for you, too.
The process of growing a business only feels hard when I get out of touch with how I want to do things. When I start to compare how other people are growing their business or showing up on social media, things start to feel difficult and slow-moving. When I stay close to the truth of who I am and how I want to conduct our marketing and sales, there is a really beautiful flow to it all. That leads me to the biggest lesson I’ve personally learned, which is; there are a lot of different paths to success and endless possibilities when it comes to creating a profitable business. It’s crucial that people find a path that feels in alignment with who they are at their core or the success could feel quite hollow when you reach it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would wake up at my home in Oceanside and hop on bikes, ride along the beach block, and explore the surrounding neighborhoods. We would stop at Revolution Roasters and get a matcha latte and avocado toast (I know this sounds basic, but I love it!) We would hit the beach during the day and go to dinner at Abha in Laguna Beach for the best burger on the planet and a glass of orange wine. For some movement, we would hit up a dance class at Therapy Social Fitness studio or hike Torrey Pines. For the weekend, we would take a road trip to Palm Springs and attend a mind blowing sound bath at the Integratron and stay at my all time favorite boutique hotel, Korakia Pensione. We would spend the weekend lounging by the pool, eating at Chef Tanya’s Kitchen, shopping the local boutiques, and enjoying the desert sunset.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m going to dedicate this shoutout to my Dad. Because of his belief in me, I learned how to believe in myself. He celebrated my heart, silliness and intelligence while giving me the freedom to mess up– without ever shaming me for it. His unconditional love and trust in me made me feel invincible. Because of him, I know that if there is just one person that deeply believes in you, you can take on the world. Love is really the most powerful fuel on the planet. As a business coach, I have the privilege of celebrating my clients and their unique gifts while helping them believe in themselves, too.
