We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Carrillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business idea came to fruition from my very own journey. I experienced a lot of childhood trauma that resulted in my use of food as a comfort. It was a comfort that caused me to struggled with my weight and confidence and it took me on a road of dieting and mistreating my body for nearly a decade. I was so tangled in diet culture and it was the practice of intuitive eating and journey of spiritual healing that allowed me to finally live healthy, happy, and free.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Holistic Nutritionist with a virtual practice so I work with mostly women all around the country. My practice is unique in that I integrate spiritual healing, overcoming generational trauma, and intuitive life coaching. It’s exciting to see women conquer their fears and live their dream lives when they no longer have the fear of food or health-related anxiety clouding their lives. My business and dream is still in a growth stage as it’s only been two and a half years. There were definitely a lot of challenges to overcome and the journey of it all has created personal healing and growth opportunities. Among the many lessons, I’d say the greatest one has been owning my power and trusting my purpose. I continuously have to come back to trusting that I didn’t go through all the challenges within my childhood and life for nothing. They were an almost like an “initiation phase” to be able to see, know, and connect with the women I guide today. I want the world to know that I know what it’s like to feel lonely, trapped, and hopeless …but I also am proof of the joy, abundance, and power there is to claim when you allow healing to take place.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d kick off the weekend with a morning beach walk on Coronado Beach, with a cup of coffee from Refill (my favorite local coffee shop). From there we’d make our way to an outdoor yoga class with Sojourn San Diego (the best yoga studio in SD). I’m a self-proclaimed foodie so definite restaurants on the itinerary are Donna Jean, Buona Forcetta, Kindred, Trust. For dessert, Stella Jean’s Ice Cream Shop is a MUST! For cocktails, apps, and more beach vibes, downtown La Jolla on a rooftop for sunset..any place that serves a cold Juneshine (San Diego’s finest boozy kombucha). Some of my favorite places to hang out would be North Park, Little Italy, and Encinitas – especially their meditation garden and cute spiritual and book store, Soulscape!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband; embarking on this journey without his love, patience, and support would have been a lot more difficult. The practice of Family Constellations and being introduced to it by Marine Selenee. The trajectory of my life changed after immersing myself in this practice. Understanding my Human Design type, Projector, with the help of my coach, Emma Rose. The books, “It Didn’t Start with You,” “Intuitive Eating,” “A Course in Weight Loss”
