We had the good fortune of connecting with Neslene J Sahagun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Neslene J, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The way I approach risk and risk taking is looking at it as a chance to grow. I’ve learned that in order to grow we have to embrace the discomfort and do things that are uncomfortable, scary and out of your comfort zone.
During the pandemic, becoming an Esthetician was the biggest risk I have ever taken. During school, I had a full-time job that was unfulfilling and came to the decision that I wanted a different career path. I took a risk of not knowing what the outcome was going to be and quit my job to pursue my dreams in becoming an Esthetician. Even though it was the scariest and most exciting time in my life, I couldn’t be happier with the decision I made.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The journey of Neskin Beauty was created back in 2020. It was a rough start trying to build a clientele during those times. I was on social media self-promoting, had my family and friends come to school as my client and eventually, Neskin had a following.
Along the way I’ve learned that having a business meant I had to be self-motivated. If anyone is interested in starting a business, my advice is to be motivated and to not give up as the journey is going to be so memorable and rewarding.
I am so proud of how far I’ve come as a business owner. It’s crazy to say Neskin Beauty is celebrating 1 year in business October 1st, 2022! I am so excited for the future and what’s to come!
I am not only here to offer skin and lash services but also here to build a relationship with each one of my clients. Being able to connect with my clients on another level is so heartwarming.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week long trip with my best friend would have to start off with “Do you want a facial?” only because she’s never in town! I always like to suggest a spa day at Cascade Spa in Hillcrest!
One morning we’d go to James Coffee in Little Italy for some coffee and pastries because who can start a day without it?! Then head to Seaport Village to walk and shop the stores in the area. Maybe have a cute little charcuterie picnic and relax on the grass enjoying the view of San Diego Bay.
One day we’ll head to eat some good sushi at Cannon Ball in Mission Bay. Walk the sushi off at the boardwalk at Belmont Park and maybe even play some mini golf at Tiki Town Adventure!
Another day we’ll eat at King and Queens in Little Italy to eat some good food and drink some delicious drinks! Then head to Downtown San Diego to bar hop and dance the night away.
There’s a bunch of fun things to do in San Diego but the most fun, interesting place that l’ve been to and seen are the leopard sharks located in La Jolla during late summer. If you’re in the water and still enough, you can get real close to them! PS. They don’t bite!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a HUGE shoutout to my fiancé, family, friends and my mentor, Lynda Tooley. It was a rough time during the pandemic but with all the love and unconditional support you all have given me, I really wouldn’t be where I am today. I am truly grateful for all the support before, during and after school. I really can’t thank you guys enough! I love you all!
