We had the good fortune of connecting with Misaki Sano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misaki, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I’m a very observant person so I feel like that has been very helpful to connect with audiences/customers a lot. I’m always thinking about how my art/creation would fit in other people’s life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a metalsmith/artist, I create objects and jewelry. Originally, I studied accounting but I knew it wasn’t for me. I was always interested in design/art so I decided to take a graphic design class. I thought I would like it, but I realized I enjoy creating something wih my hands more. When I took a metalsmithing class, I just fell in love with the process. After receiving BFA in metalsmithing, I started my jewelry line, and worked as a production bench jeweler. After a couple years, I went back to school to get MFA. I just got done with my degree in 2019, and since then I am trying to figure out the perfect balance for myself. I want to continue creating art objects, jewelry, and also custom jewelry including engagement/wedding rings. What I create has to be always special and meaningful, so I sometimes think too much and struggle with the business side of it – so that’s what I am working on. I would love to find the way to combine everything together and make it my brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live up in Del Mar, so a lot of my favorite places are up North. I just love how quiet and slow around here. Whenever my friends come out here, I always take them to Torrey pines, Del Mar downtown, Solana Beach, Encinitas. My favorite thing to do is to take out good food and have a sunset picnic at Seagrove Park in Del Mar. Also people make fun of me but I LOVE taking everyone to Oldtown! Here are my favorit spots around Del Mar/Encinitas Coffee: Board & Brew Bird Rock Coffee Blue Bottle Coffee Food: Bread & Brew Stratford Court Cafe En Fuego Cantina & Grill Plumeria Drink: Viewpoint Brewing Company Campfire Hang out: One Paseo
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My very supportive loving family, friends, mentors, and people who support my art!
