We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that life is a gamble and taking risks to better your life is the same as betting on yourself. Taking risks has been a major part of my journey as an entrepreneur. Sometimes it feels like you jumped off a cliff, but when you are passionate about your brand you will soar.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Mikey’s Mealz is a meal prep company based out of San Diego, California. We are proud to be a fully customizable meal prep company. The road to where we are now has been one of late nights, early mornings, and a lot of mistakes but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It has helped me grow into a better person while letting me find out things about my passion that I would have never found out otherwise. So while yes it was hard, but anything worth doing always is. The lessons that I have learned along the way would have to be don’t stress over things you can’t control. If you don’t know how to do it get someone who does, and never take your mistakes for granted because the learning experience is an opportunity to grow and succeed. The biggest thing that we want people to know about Mikey’s Mealz is that we provide better food for a better life. We want to show our customers that maintaining a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean that your meals have to be boring and bland.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had to give somebody the best week ever in San Diego, we would be doing a lot of eating. Being an avid foodie, of course I would have to take them to my favorite spots. One of the first place we would go to for breakfast would have to be Konos café in Pacific beach. This is my go-to breakfast spot when I get free time and want to relax at the beach and watch the waves while enjoying a delicious American breakfast. Next up, we would have to hit up my favorite taco spot Tacos El Gordo to get some authentic TJ style street tacos. After, I would pick up my dog, and we would take him down to one of my favorite beaches in San Diego, Ocean Beach. There you will find one of my favorite restaurants, OB Noodle House, which is a dog friendly spot with the best sake. Then we would go walk around old town and see the history of San Diego and hit up my favorite sushi spot Harney sushi. This is a perfect date spot with some of the best sushi in town. Then, we would head down to the Gaslamp and do some bar hopping ending the night at my favorite late night ramen spot, Tajima.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout the four people that pushed me to start my own business and have supported me every step of the way. First, I would like to give a shoutout to one of the first people that pushed me to open Mikey’s Mealz, which was my Uncle Keith. My uncle is one of the biggest reasons I started Mikey’s Mealz by telling me to not take the safe route in life to push my limits and never let anyone get in the way of your passion. The second would be one of my best friends, Andrew, who helped me by mentoring me on the logistics of my business giving me the tools to thrive. I thank for being the sounding board I needed to start my career with Mikey’s Mealz. I would also love to shout out another great friend of mine, Vince, he has been the artistic vision behind Mikey’s Mealz and motivated me to take my marketing to the next level while always inspiring me to try new fresh ideas by pushing me out of my comfort zone. Lastly, I would not be able to this without my fiancé, Taylor. She is my biggest support system and is the innovator behind Mikey’s Mealz. She always finds new ways to make my business efficient, while also helping me grow as a person. I also couldn’t have done it without the support from my family. Without them, Mikey’s Mealz would not be where it is at today.
