We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Monday-Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Whatever68 Radio to encourage and promote independent unknown artists. I had been contributing to other internet Radio stations and saw they were pushing bands aside and not giving listeners a chance to hear them so I decided I would build my own station and give air time to all independent artists. Then I took it a step further with live interviews giving support anyone in the entertainment industry and beyond. I also create yearly free compilations with worldwide independent artists giving them even more exposer I love helping people be known and seen.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart and is also my success is I turn no one away, if they ask for airplay or an interview, they get it. I love finding and introducing new bands to the music scene. I’m most proud of how far Whatever68 has come we have been running since 2012, helping so many in the independent scene. We have a great team with shows of all music daily. I also I run and manage several Facebook groups, I am most proud of Punk-Rock Club. I have had it for about 13 years and it was kind of the road to Whatever68 Radio.

Nothing great is easy and always comes with challenges. I overcome them by fighting harder with any negative I will give you positive. Giving up is never an option.

I have previously booked shows and have put together 4 Festivals for Whatever68 Anniversaries having up to 15 bands and special local guests to feature their brand.

I’m always excited to release a new FREE compilation off my small label PP Promo Records on Bandcamp, giving artists the exposure they deserve. I love new music and doing interviews. I have been contributing to Punk Globe magazine since 2013, interviewing amazing people from all over the world.

Lessons, we can’t make it without them just know the lesson. Strength is what we gain from the madness we survive.

Whatever68 is here to help you so we can all succeed together.

Always check out that band, you don’t know, they just may become your new favorite band!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego is fun. We have a lot of good food and venues. We would hit Ocean Beach lots of great shops down there and lots of food choices. Whatever you want; burgers, sushi, tacos. You can find it in OB. There is also a venue, Winston’s, which always has great local bands. We could check out so OB could be a whole day and night thing,

We would defiantly be getting something from San Diego Boba the best Boba tea around! We would hit all the local spots, like Oriental Café , El Patio, Tita’s Kitchenette and Oriental Café a hidden Gem in National City

And if Dutch Brothers is open in Oceanside, we would be making a little road trip and hang out there for the day/night there are lots of great thrift shops and food choices, and of course, the ocean.

The following days, checking out shows at our local venues like The Casbah, The Tower Bar and The Bancroft. They all give mass support to independent artists and that’s what I’m all about.

and, of course, hit all the other great beaches. That’s what San Diego is all about, right!? We will also have to look for some street fairs/flea markets.
