We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa McCabe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
This is the million dollar question, how do I know when to give up or keep going…… I was recently hit with this decision a little under a month ago and I decided to keep going. This is why My original motto is find something you love so much you would do it for free and then Create your business around that. I find most people give up because they aren’t making enough money to sustain the company and don’t want to do the work for free. When starting a business no one tells you that you end up working a decent amount for free and if that upsets you, you might be In The wrong industry. So to conclude how do you know when to give up or to keep going? The answer is simple, if the work gives you joy, you’re making a difference in at least 1 other life and you can make the time for it then keep going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Lovely Leaps started as a simple desire to work from home with my 4 month old daughter. The idea was simple, teach dance to preschoolers. As I dove head first into this company Lovely Leaps became much more than just dance. I became their first experience with dance, I quickly realized my job was to make dance fun and enjoyable so they would grow up to love the art form. Dance has always been performances based, creating many many eating and mental disorders in The younger generation. Lovely Leaps is here to stop that. Our mission is to make sure each child feels seen, heard and loved in their dance journey. This has become so close to my heart because when I was younger dance made me happy but it didn’t make me feel seen, heard or loved forcing me into bad eating and mental habits. I want each child that takes a Lovely Leaps dance class to feel confident and happy with who they are and that they don’t need to change to fit into any type of mold.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego is amazing especially during summertime! Chances are my friends have kids around ages 1-3 years so here is the perfect SD weekend with kids! -Saturday start the day with a Lovely Leaps dance class while the parents go to the coffee shop attached to the studio for breakfast. After dance pack up your swim suites and head to moonlight beach where there is a fun playground for the Little’s. Then finish up your day at one of the many kid friendly restaurants on the coast! -Sunday wake the kids up to get to Awaken church service and bring your summer clothes. After service we can head to sea world for a fun day in the sun!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe the beginning seeds of my success to Pathfinders. It’s a business mentorship program focused on creating wealth builders and world leaders. While in the program you are learning along side people who want to start a company and people who have successfully started and sold 100s of companies. Pathfinders really focuses on the mental health it takes for someone to run a successful business. The month I quit my full time drafting position was when I joined the program and my life was forever changed.
