We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success has been human connection. I’ve developed some really amazing relationships with clients and as a result they are happy to refer their friends and family. Having those referral relationships has been huge for my business. Something I don’t think would be possible if I didn’t put the time in to get to know my clients and understand how to keep them on task while they manage their health and personal issues.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After 7 years in the fitness business I decided to branch out on my own four years ago. It’s been full of ups and downs but I’ve learned from it all and am happy to be where I’m at today. I was three days away from signing a lease to open a gym of my own when the lockdown turned the world off. I was devastated at the time but am now happier than ever working independently out of BIrd Rock Fit!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start with a walk at Sunset Cliffs then dinner at Cesarina in Point Loma. We’d have to fit in a visit to Blacks Beach, a workout at Bird Rock Fit, trip to Yu Spa in Kearny Mesa and Balboa park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dave Bolduc of Golden State Fitness and Performance for taking in a newbie who didn’t even know how to deadlift and giving her an internship that would change her life!
