We had the good fortune of connecting with Rini Jain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rini, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
If you go by the history of some of the biggest Fashion Houses of the world, and how Fashion has evolved over the years, it is through “storytelling”. Look at Christian Dior’s first haute couture runway show in 1947 that defined a new silhouette for women aimed at restoring the women to its beauty post Second World War, or even look at recent times with Alessandro Michelle’s vision for Gucci with its Fall 2021 collection where he aims to revive love for fashion post-COVID with colored suits, sequins, leather dresses, fur, etc., but there is one thing in common. Each creation has a “story”, a “vision” where it is trying to create a phenomenon, a wave of change. I have the same goal for my content creation. Fashion (which is a form of an art) has the power to make a positive change. I don’t want my blog to be a place where I just post pictures wearing beautiful clothes, it needs to be more. I consider each post on my blog as an individual project where there is an overarching theme that I try to present through Fashion. It could be as simple as teaching the audience different ways of styling a particular piece of clothing, or it can be as big and important as talking about Sustainability, Circular Fashion, Genderless Fashion, and so on. Though Instagram is a visual medium, I go beyond to write elaborate captions to talk about my vision for each post. I want my blog to be Fashion-heavy, but big on “vision” as well, which basically means the audience should have at least one substantial thing to take away from each post. I achieve that by creating various Fashion “concepts” (that I call “series”), for e.g. I have a series called “Faceless Fashion” where I create looks (with my face covered or hidden) that speak about various societal topics like Gender Bias, Breaking Stereotypes, Issue of Colorism, etc. I want to inspire Fashion Enthusiasts to be more imaginative, to draw from vintage and runway equally, and to adapt any types of looks with ease and confidence. In this day and age, where people have so many different types of content to consume, I want people to find a meaning behind Fashion, and at the same time continue my passion that I hold for this form of art, called “Fashion”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Data Engineer for a FinTech company based out of Los Angeles. While my Fashion Blog started as a side hustle a couple of years ago, it is also a full-time job for me now. And, I don’t shy away from saying (in fact I am proud) that I have two full-time jobs, polar opposites of each other (Engineering and Fashion), giving my best at both. All of this means that I’m exhausted. ALWAYS exhausted. Many people have asked, “How do you do it all?” and the answer is that I just never stop working. It’s the truth. But, I do not see any other way to take my work as a Fashion Content Creator to a place where I would like to see it. No complaints though! I love doing this, and the satisfaction I get at the end of a tiring day is the BEST feeling ever.

What sets me apart as a Fashion Content Creator is my VISION. It’s my vision to continue to create Fashion content that teaches something to the audience. My fashion content is not just about wearing beautiful clothes and posting beautiful pictures, it is so much more. Though Instagram is a visual medium, I go beyond to write elaborated captions to talk about my vision for each post. my blog is Fashion-heavy, but big on “vision” as well, which basically means the audience should have at least one substantial thing to take away from each post. Even if I am sharing an outfit that I wore for a dinner, I like to share why I wore a certain outfit for a certain place, or how was that whole outfit out together. This helps my audience to implement and execute those ideas in their daily life. Through my content, I want to inspire Fashion Enthusiasts to be more imaginative, to draw from vintage and runway equally, and to adapt any types of looks with ease and confidence. In this day and age, where people have so much different types of content to consume, I want people to find a meaning behind Fashion, and at the same time continue my passion that I hold for this form of art, called “Fashion”.
I constantly read about FASHION, the history of how designers created their collections, learn about their vision and story behind each collection. I attend fashion shows, fashion exhibitions, art shows/museums (in-person or virtual) to stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the Fashion world and art in general. I make sure that the information and recommendations I share are coming from a place of deep knowledge and care for my community. I also work with brands that align with my vision hold for my content, and also create content that does justice to the vision of the brand.

My biggest struggles were fighting my own insecurities, fighting the mindset of people, and looking beyond the things and the people that don’t matter. This includes fighting my own insecurities (caused due to society’s deep-rooted prejudice) related to my brown complexion, and not-so-perfect body, fighting stereotypes attached to fashionable women (especially in tech industry), and my struggle to accept the fact that not everybody will understand my passion, and that is completely fine. Of course, there were many other struggles like juggling between my full-time day job that paid the bills and my blogging, finding brands that supported diversity, and the list is very long. But, it is the personal struggles that I fought that drive me to do what I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fiancé ‘Dhruv Bhatia’ plays all of the above mentioned roles (if not more) in flourishing my career as a Content Creator. Not only do we share common interest in Fashion (which helps), but more importantly he showers me with support, love, encouragement, and motivation at all steps in this journey. We brainstorm and execute ideas together, constantly share interesting concepts with each other no matter where we are. He is my biggest critic, and doesn’t shy away to step away from the so-called gender roles defined by the society to push me to do better.
