We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Fillat – Buchanan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kris, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up inland San Diego. I played sports form the age of 5, making it all the way the Olympics. That work ethic and dedication enabled me to move to the beach, which was my dream, open a restaurant and thrive through all the challenges owing a restaurant brings.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
GOODONYA is a Nature Inspired, Organic Food + Beverage brand. We make the best tasting, highest quality electrolyte drink on the market. We also have a restaurant, that has the largest organic menu of any restaurant in the universe. Our dedication to understand ingredients, from farming to the processing to our plate is what I am most proud of. And excited about. The food landscape, especially in the USA is shocking and we all need to do better. Developing this knowledge has been a 19+ year journey as a food maker. With every bit of knowledge I’ve learned I have put that into the food I make. We know that 70-80% of our immune system is located in our digestive system, I believe food makers have a much bigger responsibility than we’ve ever considered. It’s not just about not making people sick with food borne diseases, and food safety, but it’s truly about the immunity of our societies. Nothing about this industry is easy. It sadly takes millions of dollars to have a large impact as a brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them hiking and to the beach. To my favorite restaurants (not mine), so I don’t end up working. We’d hit up some breweries, play some pickle ball and hang out in our back yard at home.
