We had the good fortune of connecting with Holly Kammier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Holly, what do you attribute your success to?
That’s a BIG question. Hmmmm, I guess if I had to narrow my publishing company’s success down to one factor, I would say Acorn Publishing thrives because of our love of writing. My co-owner and bestie are novelists ourselves, and our commitment to great story-telling inspires us to go the extra mile with every single book.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Gosh, there is a lot that sets Acorn Publishing apart. One of the things we are most proud of is that we are the ONLY hybrid publishing company that gives writers ALL of their rights and ALL of the profits to their books. Because Jessica Therrien and I started Acorn Publishing to publish our own books, it is important to us to give each of our authors the same benefits that were most important to us when we started our label; full rights, full profits, and beautifully finished books that rival any of those books sitting on the shelves at Barnes & Noble.
Did I mention a lot of our books end up sitting on a shelf at a Barnes & Noble? Something else we are incredibly proud of is our partnerships with overseas publishing houses. We have secured traditional publishing contracts on behalf of our Acorns across Europe. Helping our writers achieve their dream of seeing their book in a foreign language is beyond exciting!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I could go on forever about all the fantastic things to do in what I believe is America’s finest city. There’s no place like San Diego. Just a few highlights would include; a hike at Torrey Pines Natural Preserve – the views are unbelievable, walking around Balboa Park – don’t miss the koi fish pond and rose garden, dinner in the Gaslamp Quarter – YUM, and touring the San Diego Zoo – a place where the animals actually seem happy to be there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Acorn Publishing’s success depends on each and every one of our talented Acorn writers. I’d also love to thank the incredible super-women who serve our authors; Laura Taylor, Debra Cranfield Kennedy, Molly Lewis, Dorene Ulrich, Lindsey Carter, Leslie Ferguson, Evelyn Lawhorn, and Jessica Hammett.
