We had the good fortune of connecting with Awo Linnet Faleyewa Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Awo Linnet Faleyewa, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Success comes from consistency. Everyday I wake up hungry for success. I identify my goals, both big and small. Then, I pound at my blessings everyday because it always leads to success. Growing my brand has taken years of consistency and always being open to expand and learn more. It is still growing! I treat my business like my baby. It requires daily nurturing, love, and gratitude.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Old School Bruja was created to provide ancestral guidance and deep healing techniques to break generational cycles of depression, addiction, and blockages that hinder us from fulfilling our destiny. I use the power of Ifa prayer, energy medicine, hypnosis, and effective ancestral healing techniques to empower the client with the tools they need to heal at the deepest level. The services I provide are meant to break cycles and wake up your inner spirit, align your head and heart. It is meant to transform you into the person you were destined to be and that takes consistent work. I support the client through the entire transformative process until they have reached their goals.
In addition to one on one services I created Old School Bruja Radio and Coffee & Toast. Old School Bruja Radio, a two time award winning show on Ripped Radio Network, was created to provide spiritual education to anyone who was searching for quality accurate information with lots of laughs and interviews with special guests, such as authors Awo Fa’Lokun Fatunmbi, and Dr. Patrick Bellegarde-Smith, Baal Kadmon who are experts in their respective spiritual practices. Our sponsors are all black owned businesses whose mission focuses on self care, healing and empowerment and that is to keep spreading the wealth and health within our community.
Coffee & Toast was created after I had a dream with my great grandmother in December of 2020. In the dream we were sitting at her kitchen table talking. She was telling me what to expect for the next year when suddenly on the table appeared fresh coffee and toast. She said this was my next project. I was to “wake up the people” with a word from Spirit. This will get people up and excited about their purpose! The power of the word is through Coffee & Toast. That is how the show was born! We went live January 5, 2021 and it has been a great morning ever since! To get where I am today takes courage. I’ve had to keep going through adversity, illness, and loss. I overcome obstacles with the power of my ancestors and my own power. I remain aligned and clear headed through adversity and challenges. I take the lessons and apply them to my next move.
In 2019 I founded The Diaspora Death Doulas Inc. That was born out of loss. The Diaspora Death Doulas is a non-profit organization that works to serve the dying community and their families during their last months in life. We preserve ancestral traditions while providing loving palliative care to the dying. The Diaspora Death Doulas is a collective of people of color who work to foster a supportive environment that is designed to make the final right of passage a beautiful experience for all involved. We strive to maintain the integrity of our heritage and ancestral practices while educating the public on our history and philosophy of death and dying. Now there are Diaspora Death Doulas certified all over the country.
I will not say any of this was easy. I appreciate every ounce of hard work that I have put into my dreams. I wake up at sunrise every morning to deliver the motivational message from Spirit so people do not feel alone or depressed. They feel loved and honored every morning! That takes passion and heart. The world needs to know how many lives are being transformed by Old School Bruja. I genuinely spread love every time I am recording the show, when I am with a client, or in the street. My life’s work is changing lives and will continue to do so long after I am gone.
But honey, I am far from done, I’m just getting started!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in Maryland are the hiking trails in Patapsco State Park, and the Billy Goat Trail. It is beautiful and peaceful. It is a great way to unwind from busy Baltimore City. I would also take them to Fells Point where we can take in the water views and have cappuccinos at the Sagamore Pendry.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my Shoutout to LaTay D Harris of Blvq Wulph Art (www.blvqwulphart.com). She is an extremely talented illustrator and tattoo artist who supports me and my vision. She has been a part of my growth and success. Her unconditional love and kindness has been a constant throughout my journey to success. She is my wife, I am blessed to be loved and honored by such a beautiful soul.
