We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ali, can you tell us what you are most passionate about?
I am most passionate about story telling. It has always been the way I can express myself, my feelings, and who I am to those around me. When a story I tell resonates with someone else, and they see themselves in it, that is the greatest honor for me. Helping people know they aren’t alone, or that they are represented, or understood, that’s the magic of story telling.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart is that I do it all myself. Generally on a comic project like this, there is a team at least 3 or 4 people, and usually all. No, it is in no way easy, but it is my passion project, and I love that I am the one doing all the work to get my vision out there. I suppose what I would want the world to know about my story is that it is for everyone. That it is okay to be vulnerable, to love your close friends, to go after what you want. I wanted to create a story that even though the characters aren’t real, they feel real to my readers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My go to for the area is to take folks to see the giant statues in Borrego Springs. They are absolutely stunning, and an out of the mainstream experience for the area. Along the way we always stop at The Montezuma Market. Its a wonderful little store with custom local honey, meats, and amazing service! Plus the giant Yeti outside the shop is a must picture stop!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My best friend, Amy Shell, deserves a lot of credit in what I do. Without her, characters wouldn’t exist, parts of the story would not be there, even my drive to do it might not exist. She is a huge part of this story.
