We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Kayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Pursuing an artistic career is what gave me the most joy. I noticed myself enjoying everything about the process and getting lost in the creative process and just being so overjoyed when I’d finish something. It allowed me to express myself in a way that I just wouldn’t be able to in any other way, and sort of channel my emotions and feelings into something that I felt would represent me. Even though I’m still a small artist, just when even one person tells me that they enjoy my music or my music helped them get through their day, it makes all the hardships that come with pursuing an artistic career worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to describe myself as an Artist. More specifically, a producer and DJ. I started DJ’ing in late 2012/early 2013 and started production in 2015. The road to where I’m at right now was not easy at all. There’s been so many roadblocks and obstacles that at multiple different points on this road, quitting it was on my mind. But being able to create and make something that come from my heart and soul is so fulfilling that it always overcame everything, and that’s something that I pride myself in. The fact that there are so many obstacles and challenges in something like being a creative but I’m still here pursuing it. My main goal with being an artist is that people are able to escape their reality for just a little bit, and to give people hope and make people feel like they’re not alone. As long as I’m able to at least provide an escape for at one person through music and what I do, it’s all more than worth it to me. That’s essentially what I’m all about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s an insane amount of fun things to do in San Diego, it’s actually kinda nuts. I think food would be a big thing to check out for sure. Take them out to some nice dinners, nice little local spots that you can’t get anywhere else, some tacos of course because you can’t come to San Diego without having some authentic tacos. Definitely check out all the beaches and parks here, I’ve lived here all my life and the beaches here are absolutely incredible in my opinion. Definitely do a couple of hikes here and there of course. Balboa Park of course, is a given. I feel like a lot of outdoors activities would definitely be in order.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s a lot of people that deserve recognition for how far I’ve gotten in my career thus far. I’ve gained support from so many places and have met so many people that I can’t imagine the rest of my career and life without honestly, From all of my real life friends, to friends I’ve met on online platforms like Twitch, to Twitter, to Instagram. These people have become some of my best friends and I would not be able to do what I do without them.
