We had the good fortune of connecting with LyKai Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LyKai, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes me happy is pretty simple and straight forward, my family, friends, and getting to do what I love for work everyday. I have also learned through the years that a good deal of ones happiness depends on your outlook on life and how you view yourself. I have found that practicing a good self care routine of diet, exercise and time spent with people I value the most, helps keep me in a great positive mindset. I also know that by taking care of myself and keeping myself in a positive mindset allows me to do what I really love to do, which is help others! I love being able to help other people however I can. If am able to make a difference in someone else’s day, it truly brings me joy and happiness. I also find happiness in noticing joyful moments in everyday life like, seeing couples in love, especially older couples who have been in love for many years and are still smiling and laughing together. Seeing families spending time together and bonding, seeing friends get together and people enjoying what great things life has to offer. Last but not least, travelling to new destinations and exploring with my family is always the icing on the cake for me.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of a Wedding and Event Planning business called Moments Remembered Events. I started my business five years ago after quitting my full-time job at an English as a second language school, where I had worked for nearly 10 years. I took a leap of faith to start my business and do something that absolutely brings me happiness. I love working in the wedding industry and meeting new vendors to work alongside to make my clients day everything they imagined and more. I strive to make sure every single one of my clients end their event truly happy that they allowed me to work with them and be a part of their special day. I want them to know they are in good hands and that I treat each and every one of my clients with genuine love and care. It means the world to me that a couple can trust me and my assistants with one of the biggest days of their lives. It is always an honor to be apart of a wedding. It doesn’t matter how many weddings I get the opportunity to be a part of, each one is truly special and unique; and, I absolutely love the process of getting to know my clients and learning about the love the two have together. I want the world to know that I am a business owner who values her work and clients. I choose to go above and beyond to make sure my clients are happy. I take pride in my work and put lots of effort, joy, hard work and care into it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a San Diego native and someone who loves her city, I would take a visitor to San Diego on an ultimate sightseeing adventure of America’s Finest city. Day 1, coming from the airport, I would start by showing them Harbor Island and take them to Coasterra to eat, while taking in the beautiful views of the Bay and Pacific Ocean. After we eat, I would take them down Harbor Dr. to Little Italy. Show them the sites in Little Italy and stop to grab a drink at Ballast Point, King and Queen or Kettner Exchange and end day one after a fun night out in Little Italy. Day 2, we would head to Coronado Island. Go over the bridge and explore Ferry Landing and Centennial Park. From there head down Orange Ave and have lunch at Coronado Brewing Company. After lunch, continue down Orange Ave, find a parking spot and walk around to explore the shops and check out the Hotel Del Coronado and relax at the beach. After relaxing at the beach for a while, we would head down the silver strand into Imperial Beach and have dinner at Sea 180 followed by a drive down Imperial beach. Day 3, we would get up early and head to Balboa Park and check out the Organ Pavilion, many museums, and sites. Towards the afternoon, we would head to the world famous San Diego Zoo and enjoy all it has to offer until it closes. For dinner, we would then head to Panama 66 for some live music and great eats in Balboa Park. Day 4, we would head to SeaWorld and see all the amazing sea animals. After SeaWorld, we could head to Old Town and have a yummy Mexican dinner at Fiesta de Reyes while watching Mariachi or Ballet Folklorico. Day 5, we would spend the day at Pacific and Mission Beach visiting the bars and walking the boardwalk. Day 6, up early to head to Ocean beach to visit Sunset Cliffs and the Pier. Afterwards, head to La Jolla for lunch at George’s at the Cove and visit La Jolla Cove, Prospect St., and Wind ‘n’ Sea Beach. From La Jolla, head up Del Mar for more sightseeing and dinner. Day 7, for the final day, head downtown and spend the day exploring the Gaslamp District and from their head to Shelter Island for lunch and wine tasting at San Pasqual winery. Then drive to the Embarcadero area and show them the amazing U.S.S Midway and the large World War II statue. End by the airport and send them off the best way possible!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have truly been blessed with some great people in my life and I could probably shout out so many of them as they all have helped me tremendously. However, when I think of that question, the first person who comes to mind is my husband, Matthew. He has helped encourage me to make my dreams a reality. He is always there when I need him, and is an always willing to listen and motivate me to do more. His constant enthusiasm and cheering me on has helped me to continue to be driven and has pushed me to be the best version of myself. He makes me feel valued and with his encouragement, it is nice to have him by my side as I continue to strive to grow my business to new heights. Additionally, I want to shoutout my assistant planners because they always go above and beyond to make sure our couples are happy and that their wedding day is one of the best days of their lives. It is truly a blessing to have amazing assistants by my side. I would love to take this opportunity to make a heartfelt thank you to my outstanding husband and amazing assistant planners. Without my assistants, my business would not be where it is today.
