Working hard or hardly working?

What’s the right balance between work and non-work time? The traditional 9-5 has slowly disappeared with the emails and zoom and texting going far beyond traditional business hours. We asked members of our community to share with us how they think about work-life balance.
Lately, having a healthy work-life balance has been a top priority. I have a demanding profession as a licensed Pharmacist. Also, I am a day trader, digital content creator, dog mom, and most importantly a wife. In the past, I would work before scheduled and after hours. I would overextend myself by taking on additional work and commitments. Over the years, I have learned that it is ok to decline and disconnect from my career to benefit my personal life which has ultimately helped my well-being. My balance has dramatically shifted being in the wedding industry, I’m able to be present with my kids school and sports m-th, some Fridays, and am able to pick and choose my Friday and Saturdays based on location of client needs and time! Read more>>
Discovering how to achieve balance fosters from situational awareness. When owning a business like Mia Marie, I find a constant need for reevaluating where I am in the growth of my business. When we first opened our tasting room, I worked almost every hour we were open. Three years later, as we continue to grow, I find I can not be physically present all the time. At this point, I strive to hire amazing individuals who embrace the Mia Marie culture and further the growth of our brand and experience. Work-life balance has always been a challenge, but since becoming a mother, I’ve been forced to structure my time in a more planned and organized way. This has helped me maintain better boundaries. Previously, I used to work seven days a week, chase every opportunity, and find myself in a yearly burnout pattern.
Nowadays, I prioritize rest above all else. I’ve learned to say no, go to bed early, and check in with my energy levels before committing to opportunities. It took me 40 years to reach this point, but I’m grateful for the lessons learned and continue to refine the balance. Read more>>
