Working hard or hardly working?

What’s the right balance between work and non-work time? The traditional 9-5 has slowly disappeared with the emails and zoom and texting going far beyond traditional business hours. We asked members of our community to share with us how they think about work-life balance.
When I started my business, I was constantly working on my craft. I was making earrings daily, searching for materials, inspiration, taking pictures, shipping out orders, and managing my social media page. This was great for me at the beginning, because I was working to get the word out about my business, and I was also stuck inside my house just like everybody else, due to the pandemic. I do think that as a business owner, there really isn’t a time in the day where my mind isn’t thinking about my business, but I have tried sticking to a schedule and a routine in order to keep more of a healthy balance. I open my shop Thursday – Sunday, so that leaves me with three days in the week to organize myself. I try taking Monday, and Tuesday “off”. Read more>>
I believe to really curate a balance between your profession and your life outside of work, takes a lot of lessons and learning through it all to realize that you must implement a work- life balance or you can physically and mentally reach the burn out stage. Through the fourteen years as a licensed hairstylist, I went through many stages ; such as starting as an assistant to get my foot in a top rated salon and learn from the best. But that comes with long hours and little time for anything outside of work. Once I reached a certain level I become a jr stylist on the floor. For me it is important to take care my physical, emotional and mental health. I like to be active, so I try to plan activities with my loved ones, romantic dates with my husband and I also try to keep personal time for myself to do hobbies that make me happy. I try to work out Monday to Friday, it makes me feel with more energy, during the weekends I love to meditate and enjoy the sun in the pool or on the beach, and when there are good waves I love going to surf with my husband! Surfing makes me feel relaxed and for me, it’s also another kind of meditation with exercise. You need to give yourself enough time to get things done, so you have to manage your time to have fun!
