Ideas aren’t everything, execution matters greatly, but starting often requires an idea and so we asked folks to think back and tell us the story of how they came up with the idea for their businesses. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite stories below.

Iris Miyasaki | Stylist & Organizer

The idea of my business ultimately came from collective personal experiences and my professional background. Fashion and organization have always been a big part of my life. Since I was three-years-old, I’ve been dressing myself and filling my closet with pieces that genuinely make me happy and feel great. Having moved eight times in the past 12 years, I’ve become a pro at being organized and cognizant of what is essential, and separating the excess. Read more>>

Liz Connolly | Lead Strategist & Designer | LC Creative Studio

The funny thing is that I didn’t! My business sort of started itself. In my previous career as a food broker, I often spent time speaking with restaurant owners and chefs not only about food products and recipes but also about their marketing. I’ve loved all things beauty since I was a kid and would secretly go through my mom’s beauty products any chance I could! When I was 18, I worked at a spa as a receptionist and fell in love with getting massages and facials. I started using the skincare products we retailed there which were much more advanced than anything I had used before and was so impressed by the the changes I saw in my skin. I was going to school during that time for a business major and wasn’t until a few years later that I decided to go to school and follow my passion for aesthetics. Read more>>

Rechelle Conde-Nau | Unabashed You (creative)

I noticed many women, myself included, faltered at being fully themselves. By that I mean having the courage to be show up in their own lives in an authentic, transparent, vulnerable way. I wanted, no I needed, to come alongside others and encourage them to be unabashed. To share conversations with others that will help us each become who we already are. Without apology. The podcast, Unabashed You, was born from this desire. Early on I learned men were listening and I realized the content could definitely be for them too. They were welcomed! Read more>>
