We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie / Stephanie Santiago and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophie / Stephanie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our thought on starting our own business was to just do it for fun and to be a part of the small business community. We really enjoyed learning through personal projects and making gifts for the family. We started creating personalized items that we knew would be looked back on and cherished forever. Quickly our hobby grew into making crafts for family & friends, then eventually we decided to open our own Etsy shop; The Crafting Twins!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It was not a easy road learning the ins and outs of running a small business. Although we are still getting the hang of everything and finally growing at a comfortable pace , we love all the new challenges we face. We’ve learned that challenges are what you need to face in order to grow. What really sets us apart is that if you are having a hard time coming up with what you would like or want us to help you create something just send us your inspiration and we’ll work closely with you to make sure you are happy with the final product. We are just as excited as you are to create something you love!

We have been in the crafting business for about 4 years now and we can happily say that we finally found what makes us happy as small business owners. We are currently shifting our focus into teaching and sharing our knowledge with others. Our passion is to help educate and grow other crafters..We really are looking forward to sharing our knowledge and showing others that the possibilities are truly endless.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
How we like to spend our weekend in this beautiful city is by starting off with a great cup of coffee! Some cute and one of a kind cafes to check out are S3, Cafe Moto , and a classic Better Buzz Coffee. Some delicious breakfast spots worth stopping by are Breakfast Republic , Morning Glory and for a classic breakfast Konos is amazing and comes with a great view right in front of the ocean. If you are looking for something adventurous a trip to Julian is always fun. Be sure to try their famous apple pie with cinnamon ice cream! San Diego is known for their great beaches some of our favorites would definitely be La Jolla beach , there is a lot of small shops and a variety of restaurants. They are also know for the famous seals sitting alongside the rocks at the beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank Mama Allie Co. for always pushing us to create new and one of a kind items. We really are each others support in the big world of crafters.
