I am an emotional wellness coach and I basically empower people by helping them regulate the stress they feel in their bodies and in their lives using a modality called Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) aka tapping. In tapping, you literally tap on acupuncture points located on the head, face, and upper torso while repeating phrases and affirmations out loud. So…yes, it may look and sound weird…but what if I told you it could be the greatest thing you ever did for yourself? The work I do is largely shaped by this idea of stress. I don’t know about you, but I used to describe anything in my life that was difficult or hard as “stress” because it was indeed “stressful.” “Stress” is such a general term for a very physiological and neurological event. Stress is needed for survival and arguably stress is how our ancestors survived. Read more>>
Trauma has impacted 70% of adults or 223 million people in the US, and that data is from 2018, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. We must push beyond statistics to create real and sustainable change. Sunlight U educates survivors on the science of trauma and the why and how those devastating symptoms happen. As a survivor, I am frustrated by the lack of both programs and progress in sexual assault and rape resources and survivors deserve more options for their healing. When I could not find what I needed I built it myself. I created Sunlight Retreats (sunlightretreats.org), a non-profit social enterprise which gives survivors a safe place to heal in-person. More than one hundred survivors of rape have experienced Sunlight Retreats and 100% would recommend it to a fellow survivor and said it made them stronger. I also field-tested two coed trauma workshops and a Survivor Symptom Survey completed by 372 survivors. Read more>>
I am a restorative justice practitioner, trainer, lecturer, consultant, and researcher. I work with k-12 schools, institutions of higher education, the criminal justice system, businesses, and community groups to build strong relationships within their communities and address harms in a way that reintegrates community members and strengthens relationships. Restorative Justice applies to all areas of life. It can help students reach their highest academic potential in school, reintegrate those coming out of prison, create high performing work teams, form stronger bonds between parents and children, and create healing spaces for those impacted by harm in any context. My goal is to offer healing, generative spaces for groups who want to build community or who are working through conflict and need support to create a peaceful, supportive, and productive environment. I participate in community events that allow me to work with other local small businesses and charities. In that respect I love doing collaborations, am constantly using my social media platforms to highlight and bring awareness to other small businesses, brands and charities. Read more>>
I help people who are planning a pregnancy or currently pregnant make educated nutrition choices for their pregnancy journey. Pregnancy is both a critical and sensitive time in the mom and babies’ life and a huge piece of making sure this time period is as successful as possible is ensuring adequate nutrition. Research indicates what you eat during pregnancy not only affects your baby but also your grandbaby. I believe I have a very special role in helping multiple generations with good health and hopefully setting up some realistic and sustainable nutrition practices for life. Read more>>
My artistic work is focused on the human form, transcending the boundaries of classical portraiture by creating “inclusive” portraits. It is a commentary on social constructs, identity and race. The human essence defines the portrait, beyond the individual character. Through the use of abstracted forms, shadows, tonal contrast and light, I wish my work question and challenge about inequality issues transmitting a message of unity in diversity, of equality, peace and support.
