We had the good fortune of connecting with Wesley Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wesley, how do you think about risk?
Life is all about calculated risks. I think that everything you do is a calculated risk. Every decision I’ve made in regard to Bunch of Heathens has been a risk that I had to weigh out the pros and cons on if I should make that decision. Sometimes that decision/risk didn’t plan out how I wanted it to, but I figured out a way to make it work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, Bunch of Heathens is all about bringing that raw energy and raw appeal of rock n roll. It’s not a polished project and that’s how I like it. How I got to where I am now is by sheer perseverance. There have been so many obstacles, and there will always be obstacles that I have to overcome. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is to sometimes take a step back and reevaluate what you’re trying to achieve. Because a lot of times the thought process of always moving forward can actually be more harmful to what you’re wanting to do. I want the world to know that Bunch of Heathens is all about being genuine and not trying to have a “larger than life” image. It’s all about having fun and experiencing life as much as you can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely go to Hodads, either in OB or downtown. We’d check out the Tower Bar, Brick by Brick, and Navajo Live bar for some entertainment. For drinking go to Dirks Nightclub and The Bancroft. I would also take them to Julian for some pie and apple cider! I think the most fun and exciting places to go are Ocean Beach and downtown for the nightlife. The local music scene is also something to check out, and it doesn’t matter what genre because it’s all very good in San Diego.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate the shoutout to the San Diego heavy metal/rock n roll scene in general. There’s a lot of really great bands and talented people who push each other for growth and opportunities to hone their craft on stage.
