We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Denne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
At LBE Design, our success boils down to a genuine commitment to both people and the planet. We craft timeless, functional pieces that are meant to be cherished, not discarded. By partnering with small, family-owned artisans, we ensure that our work supports local communities and sustainable practices. It’s all about creating products with heart and purpose, fostering connections, and growing thoughtfully. This holistic approach keeps us grounded and drives our passion every day.
What should our readers know about your business?
After years in the corporate world, Jon and I wanted to build something that felt truly fulfilling. We started LBE Design with a simple mission: to create planters that are both beautiful and functional, inspired by a leaky pot that ruined our floor. We knew we wanted our business to be sustainable and intentional, something that wasn’t just about checking off boxes but truly making a difference.
What sets us apart is our commitment to doing things with purpose. Every decision we make—from the materials we use to the partnerships we form with small artisans—is about more than just business; it’s about creating products that matter. Starting in 2018, right before the pandemic, was challenging, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. We’ve learned to stay resilient and keep everything in perspective, knowing that each challenge we face is worthwhile.
As we approach our six-year anniversary, I’m proud of what we’ve built. It’s not just about selling planters; it’s about telling a story of craftsmanship, sustainability, and intentional living. That’s what keeps us grounded and passionate about what we do every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In San Diego (Encinitas):
Morning Bike Ride & Coffee: We’d start the day with a bike ride down Neptune, catching up with neighbors as we head to Moonlight Beach. After that, we’d stop by Coffee Coffee for a great cup of coffee and a quick chat.
Lunch at Fish 101: For lunch, we’d head to Fish 101—a local favorite for fresh seafood and a laid-back atmosphere.
Sunset at Beacons: To wrap up the day, nothing beats a sunset at Beacons Beach. The views are stunning, and it’s the perfect way to unwind.
In San Miguel de Allende:
Breakfast at Lavanda Café: We’d start with breakfast at Lavanda Café, known for its beautiful ambiance and exceptional coffee. It’s a great spot to soak in the local vibe.
Exploring Artisan Markets: Next, we’d visit the local artisan markets. The craftsmanship is incredible, and it’s a great way to experience the heart of San Miguel.
Dinner at Aperi: For dinner, we’d dine at Aperi—a chic, farm-to-table restaurant that offers a contemporary take on Mexican cuisine. The atmosphere is intimate and refined, perfect for a special evening.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a heartfelt shoutout to our small plant shop owners and partnerships. We’ve built a wonderful community of small business owners who not only stock our products but also share our values and vision. During these uncertain times in retail, especially after the upheaval of the pandemic, it’s been incredibly valuable to have this network. We support each other, exchange ideas, and keep a pulse on the industry together. It’s more than just business; it’s about being part of a community that uplifts and learns from each other, ensuring that we all continue to grow and thrive.
