We had the good fortune of connecting with Terra Cosby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terra, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Well behaved women seldom make history.”- Laurel Thatcher Ulrich I find this quote empowering. It reminds me to move outside my comfort zone, to take chances and to speak boldly. That it’s okay to make my own choices even if others do not understand them or agree with them. To go for it even if I’m scared or it doesn’t work out. To trust my own intuition.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my own clinical nutrition practice with the purpose of educating and empowering individuals to take control of their own health and to regain and restore their sense of well being. I create nutrition protocols knowing that no two people are alike and require individualized programs based on their unique circumstances, preferences and lifestyle. With each person I utilize an approach that incorporates food, exercise, supplements, herbs and lifestyle factors along with goal setting, behavior change counseling, education, guidance, and support. What I am most excited about is hearing people’s success and seeing the changes that happen in individuals. Seeing how happy and confident they start to feel. To celebrate with them and cheer them on. Building a business is definitely not easy. In fact I am still working on it daily. It has taken me out of my comfort zone and at times I still doubt myself and what I am doing. Like many people I have experienced imposter syndrome many times. However I’ve learned that you must challenge your doubts and fears and do things that scare you. It is better to try, fail and learn from that failure versus not do it at all. That if I can’t do something either research and learn or ask for help when needed. As for what I want people to know is that my goal is to help people gain a knowledge and understanding that how you take care of your body has an affect on how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally. That by creating a healthier relationship with your body you can move past your diagnosis, take control of your health, and actually feel better.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places to visit include Sunset Cliffs, Blacks Beach, Balboa Park, Idyllwild, Big Bear, La Jolla Sea Caves, tide pools in Point Loma. We would go hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, climbing, dancing, outdoor concert or movie depending on season, Gulls game, Padres game, one of the many farmers markets, some music venue to listen to a good band, Lips on El Cajon. As for eating and drinking you can’t go wrong with places in Little Italy, North Park, or Liberty Station.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Heather Fenwick, Ann Hassinger, Cady North, Mike Gonzales, Matt Burd, Mike Page, Leela Moghadas , Gordon Renwick, Greg Bowcott, Charity Arthur
