Meet Sky Eats | Alyssa Yam, Samantha Low, Kristen Chan

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sky Eats and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sky, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We started our food blog during quarantine to share our love for food with others in our community and promote various cuisines and small restaurants. Initially, we posted our eats casually, but as we gained a following and noticed that people were enjoying our posts, we began to post more consistently, expanded to reels, and even potentially to TikTok. Starting this food blog allowed us to delve into food photography, photo editing, investing in cameras, attending foodie events, speaking with other creators, and reaching out to restaurants around the SoCal area and beyond, including New York City. Overall, we are super happy to connect with other foodies and share our food journey!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are students/alums from two cities, New York City and Los Angeles, who decided to create this food blog. We are most excited about expanding to other countries and hopefully sharing our food journey abroad, whether that be in Europe or Asia. Additionally, we are very proud of how far we’ve come in these past few years together and will continue to try our best to deliver more foodie content while having fun in the process.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles: We would start our mornings off with a run along Santa Monica Pier and refuel with brunch at République (Shakshouka and pastries) and coffee in Koreatown (the Einspanners at Memorylook, the Injeolmi Latte at Cafe de Mama, or the Vienna Latte at Yeems Coffee)!
After our coffee run, we would go thrifting in Melrose and shopping at the Grove! Then we would head to the Getty to look at art and enjoy the amazing view of LA. Sunsets are a must in LA – so we would drive to Malibu and catch the sunset there!
For dinner, we could either stay in West LA and try Menya (Curry Ramen), Brother’s Cousins Tacos (Burritos/Tacos), or Yama (Sushi) OR we could venture to one of the many spots in Koreatown: Hangari Kalguksu (Noodle soup and Bossam), Jinsol Gukbap (Soups), or Meat Love (KBBQ). There are so many dessert options nearby too, our favorites including Oakobing, Millet Crepe, and Salt & Straw!
(After dinner, the night is still young! We can venture to Hollywood or Santa Monica and grab drinks!)
New York City: We’d start with a jog at Brooklyn Bridge Park, then head to Rule of Thirds, my absolute favorite Japanese spot. They’ve got these amazing Japanese Souffle Pancakes, Tuna & Nori, and Chicken Katsu. After that, it’s off to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, maybe some painting at Central Park, and a caffeine fix at Drip Drop Café, my go-to coffee spot. When dinnertime rolls around, you’ll find us at Osamil, Soothr, or Tomi Jazz, and you can’t forget dessert at Aubi & Ramsa, which serves alcohol-infused ice cream. After dinner, the night’s just getting started – karaoke, speakeasies, or catching a show at the American Ballet Theatre or on Broadway; there’s always something fun to do!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We are very grateful to the foodie community for supporting us in finding our creative outlet!
