We had the good fortune of connecting with Sienna Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sienna, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor behind my success and success is a brand is that it thrives on authenticity. Although strange, I do not consider myself to have a full “aesthetic” on my images or my work. Rather, I believe being authentic, myself, and human are all within my brand – being myself. I find that being my most genuine and authentic self brings out the best in not just myself, but the best in those around me as well.
So if I had to tack a name on my brand, I think being Sienna is as good as it gets. I find success in what I do, I enjoy what I do in my life, and I find success through that. There is this misconception that being successful is a huge, grandeur thing. However, I believe being successful lies in who we are. For that reason, I find success as being Sienna and I think that’s pretty awesome.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently a Registered Nurse in California. I did not attend nursing school right away for my undergraduate studies, nor did I get into a California-based nursing school. I took a different route and expanded my research and attended an Accelerated Bachelor’s of Nursing program in Boston, MA. I had a chance to live on the East Coast! Nursing is my second bachelor’s degree, and I worked for a few years prior, so that I could build my skills and knowledge. With each position, I only gained new knowledge, which allowed me to excel in my career growth. Even now, as a registered nurse, I turn to my past experiences as learning tools so that I can provide the best patient-care. Another unique aspect regarding my career path is that I am currently working in a specialty right out of nursing school. There’s a stereotype that new nurses “must” start out in Medical-Surgical before doing anything else. On my job hunt, I was selective about where I wanted to apply, and what I wanted to do. Since then, I do not regret my decision and now currently work in a Plastic Surgery specialty.
I want to showcase that being a little different and taking a path less traveled by is okay. In fact, it only highlights how unique one’s journey can be! I think being different separates us from societal norms and stereotypes. In doing so, we learn to accept that there are numerous pathways to success, and we do not need to do what “everyone else is doing.” Success works at our own, personal pace, and it is important we embrace that wholeheartedly.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in California, there are a plethora amount of places to visit. I grew up in Sacramento, CA initially. Although many do not look at Sacramento as the place to be, I think there is beauty in any place we go to. Sacramento has numerous eateries, night time activities, hiking places, sports events, and so much more! I find that Sacramento has nice mild balance between extremely eventful to super chill and quiet places. I love coffee shops, so we would need a coffee shop tour around Sacramento. Depending on the season, we can take it indoors at a Kings Game, or attend outdoor sports activities too. If we feel the need to explore outward, San Francisco is a short drive away, or we can buckle up and head into nature and hike it up in Auburn. Either way, I believe it’s important we do not dismiss places that people may not know about. Better yet, Sacramento is the capitol of California. It only makes sense to show some love and appreciation, so that we can learn to appreciate other things around us as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Truth be told, I truly believe my success emanates from important people in my life, specifically my partner, my family, close friends, and mentors. I find inspiration in numerous things, but my relationships with people are my driving force and the empowerment I need in order to feel successful. My partner keeps me grounded and guides me when I need advice or help, with literally anything. He keeps things real with me and encourages my growth in every way. I love that we can do this life thing together, because I truly feel as if I found my other half. My family is one my greatest joys in life. Growing up, my family has been the force to keep me going. I am the eldest of 4 siblings, so this motivates me to keep moving forward in my life goals. I want to be a great role model and showcase what it means to be a leader. Additionally, my parents provided so much for me growing up, I hope to return the favor and continue caring for them as time goes on. My friends are my ultimate support as well. I love that I found friends that I vibe with so well, and that we all have the same goals in life. Although we are far apart, I find that distance only makes the heart grow fonder, and my love for my close friends grows each day. Lastly, my mentors are the ones who truly provided guidance and advice, especially in my career endeavors. Most of mentors are distant from me, but I still keep in contact with them and update them on my career goals. For anyone struggling in their career paths, I find that mentors are the right people to speak with. They share wonderful bits of knowledge and truly guide you on the right path.
