We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Saathoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always wanted to feel like I was making a difference. I enjoy team sports because I get to contribute to a team. Building a business not only allows me to make a positive contribution through our product and service to our clients, but creates a workplace that provides opportunity for our team members. Through the business, we make a difference everyday.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Business is never easy. Every business faces challenges. Perseverance through those challenges as a team builds character. RG Alliance is a team-sourced financial intelligence company. We provide administrative and financial back office support to help purpose driven, founder led businesses turn data into intelligence. One of the key things that set us apart is our approach. We blend seamlessly into our client’s organization adding infrastructure to allow the company to focus on what they do best and the business owner to do what they love to do. One of the key questions we ask prior to any engagement is “what difference does your product or service have on your team and/or in the community.” Life is too short to do things just for the money. Our team wants to make a difference and we thrive when we see the result of our work have an impact in the community. Throughout COVID, many of our clients faced significant financials and operational stress. We decided to become economic first responders and provide service to anyone who asked regardless of their ability to pay. This allowed our team to immediately respond to any request and understand that we could be a lifeline for so many struggling. We are proud of the impact this made on the community and how many businesses we were able to help save. The tenacity of our team is unmatched and our collective effort to improve daily really sets us apart. The defining theme that sets us apart are our three simple rules. They are the only three rules we have as a company but they developed our brand and elevated our team to be the best version of themselves. 1. Be Kind, 2. Be Honest, 3. Do Your Best. If we are those three things 100% of the time, we will find success. I try to live my life by those three rules and filter every decision through that lens. People learn more about your character by how you deal with failure, than they do if you are perfect. We are not perfect, but we are kind, honest and do our best every time. That is the foundation of our brand promise and the key to our company culture.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a resident of Escondido, CA, and it has so many treasures that are not well known. There so many great places in San Diego county, but I would focus them on Escondido. In the morning, I would take them on a hike through Lake Hodges followed by lunch somewhere on Grand Ave., there so many great choices. If I had to pick, I would probably drop by Burger Bench or Dominic’s. Later in the afternoon, I would take them to an event at the California Center for the Arts followed after the show by stopping in at SIP Wine and Beer for a selection of local winemakers.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been a business owner throughout my career. I have had done it alone and worked with partners. After starting RG Alliance in 2013, I was confident, I did not want to do it alone. I was blessed with two partners, Holden Smetana and Alan Braun, who encourage me every day and balance out all of my shortcomings. I appreciate their perspective and how we share the same values. It has allowed us to build an organization that provides freedom and opportunity to our team with a best in class company culture. I owe so much to them and am grateful every day for the positive impact they make on my life.
