We had the good fortune of connecting with Rico Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rico, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind our success is collaboration. Working with others in this very competitive industry is key for us. We are located at the San Diego Jewelers Exchange building in the Gaslamp District. This hidden gem is house to many independent jewelers, and our goal is to amplify the voices of many hard-working artists and showcase their work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At Jewelry X-Change, we are proud to keep traditions alive. In this fast-changing world, it is very important to remember our stories. Jewelry plays a significant role in our history. We care about the stories we tell through jewelry. Whether we are restoring, cleaning, transforming or creating from scratch, we are here for the ride in this thing called life. Jewelry making is an old tradition that continues to live through one-of-a-kind pieces. We love our customers, and our customers keep returning with new stories, ideas and projects that they would like to immortalize. We value their trust and because of it, we want to be better and keep growing every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love the ocean! We are so lucky to live in sunny San Diego because there are so many beautiful places to visit and admire nature. Some of our favorite places are Sunset Cliffs for a sunset show like no other, Balboa Park for its wonderful architectural beauty and, of course, the vibrant Gaslamp District.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely. Even though there are many jewelers in our team, we would like to dedicate this shoutout, in loving memory, to Mr. Larry Baker, one of the finest jewelers this city has seen. We asked him once, “If there is only one thing you could say for the rest of your life, what would it be?” Thank you -he said. His craftmanship was like no other, and we were lucky enough to call Larry our friend as well. His mentorship, work ethics and our gratitude will be forever part of our hearts and a strong structure of how we do business. Thank YOU Larry, may your soul continue its journey in peace.
