We had the good fortune of connecting with Raven Herschel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raven, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To me, risk taking is a must for anything you want in life and will determine the outcome of many “make-or-break” moments in any career we choose. I would not be here today without the risk I took to go to makeup school as a new mom or not saying “yes” to the opportunities that scared me. When I am working on a client, my most favorite work ever, is when I do something I normally wouldn’t do… when I break out of the normal colors or techniques I find my style and skill really grows in those moments of what-if’s and the conscious choice to trust in my capabilities. I also feel that risk-taking is an act of self-love and self-empowerment.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to say I put a magnified glass on the beauty I see in every woman. Yes.. every woman. We all have at least 2-3 stunning features. I’ve learned in my own personal journey of self-love and acceptance to set focus on the features we love about ourselves and then the little things that bug us, will no longer be so important. In my experience of working on now thousands of women, most of us tend to focus on our flaws. It’s kind of like when you forget an amazing heart-felt compliment you just received, but remember a negative remark someone gave you in high school that still feels like yesterday (story of my life). We carry with us false imprints and expectations and my intension through my artistry is for you to remember your beauty and the truth that is known and felt from that place. What may set me apart from other Artists is I feel very connected to my clients and helping women in beauty is very karmic for me. I hold it very dear. As women we are also the givers of our lives.. to our husbands, children, families and careers.. for you to spend an hour with me, trusting me with your beauty, is as much a gift to me, as I hope for you. I never thought I would be this known in my area and this accomplished in makeup, if I can humbly say. I am most proud of the fact that women trust my work, that is so important to me. It wasn’t as easy as it was hard-work building over the years and working like crazy through weekends, but my love for makeup and my clients made it very worth it as I’m very fulfilled creatively and purposefully. I hope I inspire each woman to see their beauty (inside and out) and celebrate it. Love yourself and know the bad-ass, unique and unconditional womanhood we hold within by birth right. We are powerful creators and with that, is limitless beauty.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost my beautiful, now 8 year old daughter Ella, who inspires me endlessly and my supportive husband Ben who reminds me to say yes to everything and to trust myself. To all of my wonderful clients, I wouldn’t be here without you, as well as my tribe of awe-inspiring and supportive fellow female creatives.. you all ROCK.
