We had the good fortune of connecting with Mohan Sundaresan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mohan, what are you inspired by?
Nature: flowers, the sky, the ocean. Music: Jimi Hendrix, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristopherson. Artists: William Turner, Zao Wa Ki.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t consider myself an artist. I am a craftsman. My craft is my life. I live for my craft not off it. I don’t consider myself a professional. My manager Steve Medoff handles all my publicity and sales. I am able to release me from myself. Life is a challenge but the challenges fade away when you enjoy doing your own thing. It boils down to exploring yourself. Like a child, you are opening a box of surprises.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The pandemic has made an easy answer. I would take them to my studio, which is behind my house. They are are visiting me and that’s what they get.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Kris Kristopherson made me realize who I am. Willie Nelson, Don McClean, Neal Diamond are poets, singers. Arnold Mandel, professor of neuroscience, UCSD. Book: Sammy Davis Jr. “Yes I Can” “The Little Prince” Group: Mankind My dachshund Dizzy is my inspiration, but mostly I honor my mother and father for giving me this ‘opportunity’.
