We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
How deeply can you listen & trust yourself? This is the question I’ve been asking myself everyday for the past year. This question & how I arrive each day to answer this question is the the fertile soil that sprouts the many layers of success within my business & life. Everyday I am met by the numbers in my bank account, the clients I am holding space for, the amount of members in my online community, the voices inside my mind & eyes of others watching me as I build this business. The pressure to ‘succeed’ can become heavy. When it does . . . I find my breath, I move my body, I ask myself ‘how deeply can you listen & trust yourself?’. As the waves of calm ground me, I remember success to me is nothing that can be quantified by numbers or expectations. Success is a feeling in my body – that I am worthy, radiant & nothing but magic upon arrival. Success is me embodying the mission & vision I’ve been called to birth into this world.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Self Remembrance started as a passion project because I wanted to hold more intentional space for connecting to the body. In little to no time I realized ‘holy shit . . . this is more than a passion project, this is my life’s work.’ Since this epiphany I’ve been making steps to deepen & expand Self Remembrance as a sovereign, embodied business. It’s only been a year & so much has transformed, it truly amazes me everyday. In the beginning I was still working a 9-5 corporate design job. It was a lot to grow a business & work another full time job. I was committed & made it work for some time, but after a while my body & heart were telling me ‘this is too much.’ Making the jump from a ‘stable’ 9-5 corporate job to full time in my business was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made. The months leading up to it were pretty agonizing. Going back & forth with the pros & cons. Then one day it became abundantly clear that I had to choose & the question arrived, ‘how deeply can I listen & trust myself?’ The feeling arrived that I can trust myself, I can do this, it won’t be easy . . . it will be worth it.
Fast forward about 5 months, my life & business have been reborn into an expansive, thriving essence. I am in a space of constant creation, which I love as an artist. I wake up each day with ease, moving at a pace that feels aligned with my body. I am in constant connection with souls who inspire me whether they be clients, collaborators or fellow entrepreneurs. When I am ‘working’ I am birthing something into the world that doesn’t exist yet.
We live in a world that is set up to numb our connection with our bodies. Being in tune to our body’s wisdom is one of the most potent medicines to live a thriving, abundant life. Self Remembrance is a sacred space to connect to your body & live in your most authentic expression. It is a dream that this mission that I offer to the collective is one that lights up my soul each & every day.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ah I love San Diego so much! If my bestie was visiting for the week we would definitely go to Balboa Park multiple times to enjoy a picnic in the grass under the warm sun. We would hop in my Casita Travel Camper & camp on the beach at Torrey Pines, enjoying a sunset hike there as well! The places we would eat would be Communal Coffee for breakfast, Evolution for lunch & anywhere in Little Italy for dinner. We would shop at Pigment, Thread & Seed and Gold Leaf. Enjoy a roof top yoga class at Trilogy! On Sunday we would go to my friend Kirti’s dance class in the park then hit the Hillcrest Farmers Market for flowers, fresh produce & delicious brunch.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
At this moment in my story, my mentor & teacher Tori Washington deserves the biggest shout out. This woman is an absolute power house who is building a million dollar business while being human & having an expansive heart. If you don’t know Tori, look her up! She is changing the world & I am so grateful to be a student of hers.
