We had the good fortune of connecting with Liselle DeGrave, APR and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liselle, what do you attribute your success to?
You and your team are the biggest factors of your brand and your business. Most people think of “brand” and they think “logo.” This is far from the truth. Your logo is important, but it’s only a small piece for the success of your business. Our team is is responsible for the success of DeGrave Communications. The right team is essential. Having your “dream team” in place will keep your business ethics on point, your customer service will exceed client expectations and you will build a network of repeat clients. Choose people who share your same values, work ethic and give generously. We know that strong talent is hard to find, but talent combined with attitude is even harder; when we find it we hold on tight. Our team is our brand.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One of the biggest lessons that I have learned about running a business has been that what you see is not always what it seems. The amount of work that goes into business development is intense. As a businesses owner you have to be willing to put in time, effort and build relationships. People see a polished image on social media and think something looks easily attainable. Running a business is not for the faint of heart. It takes a commitment to learning new skills and adapting all the time. Businesses go through growing pains and with growth and success comes more responsibility. There came a point when I was wearing several hats. Not only did I need to deliver on the projects I was working on, but I was also serving as the business HR manager, accountant, business development director and admin. As we’ve grown, I have been able to delegate and work with specialists in those areas to support DeGrave Communications, but along the way I had to be willing to do it myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in SoCal there are so many amazing places to visit. As an advocate for small business love, I would start our morning off at The Crafted Scone in downtown Murrieta. We could spend our morning walking around and visiting the small shops. We could head over to Temecula and spend the day wine tasting. In the evening we could grab dinner in Old Town Temecula and walk around the shops.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to give a shoutout to Sebaz Video Productions. Sebastian and his team are always striving to succeed. They are creative, always adapting and willing to work with their clients to make every project a success. The Sebaz team is dedicated to learning new skills and growing as a business and individuals.
