We had the good fortune of connecting with Laurie Libman Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laurie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It wasn’t really a process as much as it was a calling. I had lost someone very dear to me and my heart was broken for all the things that happened in his life, he had lost his children tragically and unnecessarily and for this his heart was broken and there really wasn’t a way to mend it. After he passed away I deeply felt that I was meant to tell their story and create something that would have an impact and could possibly change the outcomes of others lives by creating a movement that fostered Mindfulness and the awareness of choice on a deep level, choice of thought and the power in that. Perhaps bring people, comfort and/or contentment in this life that is both challenging and beautiful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always struggle with people referring to me as an artist, it is an odd mental block because I can’t draw to save my life. What I have realized is I am more of a creative thinker and a concept creator and what has always come naturally is to create with meaning and purpose and that is always how I see things. I also, appreciate and encourage individuality, we are unique simply because of who we are and we matter to this world and that is most often our message. I have no idea how I got to where I am today, I do know, it hasn’t been easy. However, so worth it, I could not imagine anything else. for myself … part of overcoming challenges is you must learn to be pliable and be open to change and I truly believe that is why we are still here today. You have to roll, reinvent what you do, and I think sometimes you don’t even know you are doing it and sometimes you realize you really have to do something different. Be open, be honest and most importantly be kind, move in the direction with your heart, even when it can be painful, don’t stop it will guide you to where you need to be, trust. I believe our brand and our story is exactly about this. Life and your personal journey in it and part of that is choice, choosing your thoughts and choosing your response to life and paying attention and being in tune and aware of the signs. And our biggest message is that you moving through all of that with a knowing that who you are is perfect, just as you are, BE You.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, that has changed a bit, due to the current situation… so I will do my. best here. I love to spend time outdoors, for me when my best friend visits, it is about spending quality time, so what we do, supports that. I am not a big bar. person, however I do love sitting at a bar with great ambiance or a great bartender (with a sense of humor) and having a drink and great talks with friends. I suppose it would look like, early morning walks on the beach, hikes, perhaps sunset dinner and drinks on the beach, Del Mar is my favorite spot as I lived there for more than 20 years. I love TJ oyster bar in Bonita, for sure we. have gone there ;-). I love spending romantic time with my friends, might sound strange but I am all about atmosphere, so it would be candle lit dinners with great music, intimate moments of sitting on rocks by a stream that we hiked to, picnic lunches, bike rides, oh and I have a killer box van that is a van life/ work truck and we would definitely open up the back with some great Cardiff views and have some food and good cold sake. I’m not sure if. these are the answers you are looking for but this is what I would do :-).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Being an entrepreneur and creating a passion project that has a purpose and needs to support you and your family can be incredibly challenging, I couldn’t have gotten through this without the support of my family, my former husband and COO and my current partner. Also, all the people out there that share their beautiful and heartfelt stories, this keeps me going and makes me never want to stop, it fills my heart and gives purpose and this is what it is really about.
