We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Alessio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about risk as an opportunity in life. I can’t recall where I first heard it, but I love the statement “the only difference between fear and excitement is your attitude.” Of course there can be fear in taking risks, but if we never take the chance we may never be presented with the same opportunity again and may miss out on a potentially life changing experience. Another quote I really like is “make the choice to take the chance or your life will never change.”
Taking risks has allowed me to start my own business and give me the freedom to work from anywhere, making my dream come to fruition. I remember when I studied abroad in college and new opportunities presented themselves and a lot of us replied “why not?” when responding whether we should participate or not. This outlook really stuck with me as I have often maintained a very similar mindset when presented with a potentially promising venture.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Business-wise, I got to where I am today by persevering and I don’t know that it is ever easy for anyone. I overcame challenges by remaining dedicated and determined. The lessons I’ve learned along the way are to never give up, follow your passions, and always do your best. There are always going to be good days and not so good days, but in life I have learned that you’ve got to take what you’ve got and do with it what you can, and I have come to love being an Entreprenurse.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depending on the weather we would definitely head to one of the many beautiful beaches that San Diego has to offer…
Mission Beach (beach and/or bayside, eat at Funky Lemon, Molly’s, Draft, Cannonball or Catamaran), La Jolla Shores and walk north to Black’s Beach (if you don’t mind seeing a lot of old men in birthday suits), Del Mar (eat at Jake’s Del Mar or Poseidon on the water)…
Sailing and/or boating in San Diego Bay with a stop for dinner at Portside Pier and catch a concert from the boat outside Rady Shell or Humphreys…
Hike Torrey Pines and if you’re feeling adventurous take one of the trails down the cliffs to Blacks Beach or go watch people jumping off the cliff hang-gliding/paragliding from the Glider port…
Kate Sessions Park (set up a picnic for one of the best views of the city)
Catch an incredible sunset view and watch the planes go by at Mister A’s…
Visit Coronado and the Hotel Del…
Day or overnight trip down to Valle de Guadalupe in Baja for some good food, wine, and views (some favorite spots are Solar fortun, Fauna, Finca Altozano, and Cuatro Cuatros)…
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, friends, colleagues, and boyfriend as their support has been instrumental in my success.
