We had the good fortune of connecting with Lars Helgeson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lars, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I left the Air Force after 4 years with the sense that I wanted to be out of the enormous government bureaucracy. I had learned a lot and got to do some great things, but felt that owning my own business would give me greater ability to control my own destiny. At first, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, and supported myself by doing consulting work. When the idea for my first business hit, an email marketing service provider, I wasn’t sure how well it would work, or if anyone would use it. Fortunately, we were early movers, and we were able to grow the business quickly. While there were many long days and nights that went into building that business, it was worth it to know I had built something I could call my own.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
GreenRope is a Complete CRM, which means it includes CRM, marketing automation, customer service software, event management, learning management, project management, and more, all in a single platform. It is that integrated approach to managing sales, marketing, customer service, and operations that sets us apart from the other CRM and marketing software platforms. Because everything is in one system, we typically save our clients over 90% cost and schedule to implement our CRM, as opposed to the more traditional CRMs on the market. We can also do a lot more than those other platforms can do, due to the integrated nature of the information we manage for the business. Building a fully integrated system like this was not easy, both from a planning and development point of view. The system itself is complex, but hides that complexity from our users. The challenge of giving our users so much power, without overwhelming them requires diligence and continuous improvement in UI/UX design. As a bootstrapped company, we are able to focus our attention on providing the best experience for our customers. We believe in providing the best service, and the best software, at the best price.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am more of an outdoors person, and would take that person surfing, golfing, hiking, snowboarding, or mountain biking. San Diego has great options for those things year round.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, for their unwavering support, always believing in me.
