We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Braveheart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is a big part of my life. Without it, I wouldn’t be living my dreams. And, to me, that’s not a life worth living. I learned early on that I must take risks in order to achieve my dreams. They go hand in hand. I grew up with parents who never took risks and weren’t happy either. This had a big impact on my life and motivates me to this day to continually grow and evolve to reach my full potential. I learned how to take risks by listening to others who had achieved what I desire the most- they made lots of money doing what they love to do and serve the world in big way with their God given gifts. They were leading happy lives because they had inner happiness in their service to others. They are not motivated by money, but instead are motivated by the number of people they impact and share their gifts. The one common denominator I found was that they all took risks- esp. risks that scared them shitless. After learning that, I decided to do the same thing and take risks. I also think it’s inherent in my personality. I find something I love and jump right in- without hesitation. There’s only so much research you can do to take a calculated risk. Ultimately, it’s up to you to jump in. Being an entrepreneur of a startup is a risk. However, the risk is mitigated in my belief in myself and my dreams. Nothing will stop me from achieving them. The risk kinda feels like you’ve jumped out of an airplane and are assembling your parachute on the way down. I love my life and living my dreams. I will always take the risk necessary to get me to my next step on my journey as I build Prodigi Kids into the world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a strong background in business and am the CEO/Founder of Prodigi Kids. I’m also a designer and love to design things- whether it’s a room, an outfit, and accessorizing an outfit with jewelry and makeup. My absolute favorite thing to design are products for kids. My gift is in designing the highest quality product that brings more loving moments of connection between parents and their kids. Designing products comes naturally to me and I feel my most creative self whenever I design them. I’m not formally trained and have had the opportunity to collaborate with talented people to bring my visions to life. Whenever I design something, it feels completely peaceful inside. I didn’t know how much joy my 1st product offering would bring until I started selling it and customers raved about it. I received so much love in return for my creation and this flow of love was something that I never expected. I designed an awesome product that really helps families and that was all the joy I needed. To receive the love and appreciation of our customers is truly beautiful and I’m looking forward to impacting more people and growing Prodigi Kids.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a transplant from New York City living in San Diego. I love living here and live close to the beach in Del Mar which is what I love. I love that I can go to my favorite beach any day of the week throughout the entire year. So, the first place I’d take someone would be to my favorite beach. I’d also take them to the most beautiful places in San Diego- for a hike at Torrey Pines State Park, For dinner and drinks, I’d take them to Little Italy downtown and walk around the waterfront after. The vibe there is so cool.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, I would love to give a shoutout to my investors and lending partners. I’d also love to give a shoutout to my Prodigi Kids team, including my family, friends, incredibly dedicated internal team, my manufacturer, our suppliers, and our customers who have helped Prodigi Kids get to this point. Without this team of extraordinary people supporting my big vision and going through all the challenges with me, I would not be here today. And, we’re just getting started. My late father, a veteran, used to have a saying he taught me. He said, “Karen- surround yourself only with people that you’d want next to you in a foxhole who’d get your back.” It was like it came from God directly to my Dad’s lips and this stuck with me. My entire team and customers are those people that have been with me through everything and their devotion and dedication to our mission never waiver. I’m fortunate to be surrounded with people who make me feel cherished every day!!
