We had the good fortune of connecting with kailee powers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi kailee, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think the biggest risk I’ve taken in my business was giving up a 4 year traditional college experience to pursue my business. Every life/career has risks. Big or small! Risk is a part of life. The role risk has played in my business was big in the beginning I think the most important thing is being smart about them. Make sure you have a worse case scenario backup plan, think through the potential pros/cons of your risk, and never take a risk that could hurt your business- or your life! No risk is worth losing what you love or what you’ve worked for.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a photographer! I am most proud of creating memories people post on social media, frame on their walls, and hold in their hearts for years. What sets me apart from others is my customer service and love for people. I began my business when I was just 15 years old and in high school! I started with high school senior photos and began shooting weddings at 18. My very first client was a high school senior portrait, and 6 years later, I was her wedding photographer! It wasn’t easy. It was a lot of self learning, mistakes, rejections, and begging people to take my pictures. I overcame challenges by doing a lot of time dedicated to learning the technical side of photos and getting a good support team around me. Some lessons I learned along the way were to remember my value, stay humble, be kind, work hard, view failures as opportunities, and make people feel loved. What I want people to know about me and my brand is that I love people well and creating beautiful photos.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1. San diego harbor cruise 2. San diego zoo 3. Potatoe chip rock 4. New point lighthouse 5. the Cravory 6. Tacos el Gordo 7. San diego botanic garden
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this to my parents. They have loved me, supported me, prayed for me, cheered me on, and gotten me to where I am to today.
