Meet Justen Brown | Husband, Dad, Servant, Entrepreneur & Adventurer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Justen Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justen, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Always staying humble and remembering where you came from. Making sure my family and I follow the Lord Jesus Christ in love and service to those around us. Having high integrity and character to genuinely see the best in others. I believe as long as we take care of those around us or those connected to us, we will succeed. Often times my greatest strength is also my biggest weakness and that is putting others needs in front of mine or that of my family’s.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Alliance Escrow Inc. (Alliance) is a neutral third-party, escrow company to a real estate (RE) or mortgage transaction within California. One thing that really sets us apart is that we understand what an agent, the lenders or an investor experiences from beginning to end. After becoming one of the youngest RE agents in the state of California, straight out of high school, I quickly learned how difficult it was to gain a new client and that building a business was an uphill battle. Later, I learned how to become a mortgage banker/broker, and understanding the financial intricacies surrounding a home purchase or refinance. Next step for me was to then become an active RE investor, practicing every possible way to buy, hold, exchange, transfer, flip and sell real estate. I am constantly reading, learning and growing which has helped us shape our success at Alliance. One of my toughest challenges early in my career was having clients that trusted an 18 year old with the largest transaction of their lives. I was able to overcome that by explaining and conveying with confidence the knowledge I had obtained during our relationship as agent/client. Now Alliance has been in business for 7 years closing thousands of real estate transactions which vary from land, condo/townhomes, single family residence, multifamily (ranging from 2-50 units) and commercial properties. I owe a huge THANKS to all of our awesome team members, brokers, agents, lenders, investors, builders and friends. We know we are not perfect but strive every day to do the right thing and take care of customers. Having effective communication and a sense of urgency to every situation, no matter how big or small the transaction. I really love what I do and who I get to do it with!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man this is a fun one! I sometimes think about playing tour guide to visitors who come in off the cruise ships just for fun. First, I would want to know what they are here for: fun, action, business, sight-seeing, or relaxation. My top recommendations are to hit up Old Town and the Zoo in one day, Zoo first and then Old Town for nightlife/dinner. Then, Seaport village, the Embarcadero and Coronado. So many great restaurants at Headquarters or on the island of Coronado. Within either of these days, its always a great idea to drive thru Barrio Logan with some of the best taco shops north and south of the border. If it is sunny out (like most days), drive up the coast by starting at the tide pools in Point Loma, then Ocean Beach (OB) to La Jolla. La Jolla Cove is absolutely beautiful. I’m an outdoor nature/hiking fan and there are some pretty cool hikes here in San Diego. Check out Torrey Pines Cliffs, La Jolla Secret Swings, canyons inland to WWII forts by the Old Mission Dam, Three Sisters Falls further east and for a very challenging hike, El Cajon Mountain. I like to consider myself a foodie and constantly trying as many new places as possible. In no particular order: The Friendly, Plumeria(v), Chicken Pie Shop, Pot Pie Shop, Bronx Pizza, Pizzeria Luigi, Sab E Lee, SamWu, Puesto, anything in little Italy and Princess Pub, the Brazilian Steakhouse, Cowboy Star*, Harney Sushi, and Goody’s Sushi and Grill. There is something for everyone.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First my beautiful wife, Heather (13 years married) and raising our 3 kids. Next is my amazing business partner, Josh Baker, whom I have known since I was 6 years old. Josh is incredibly smart when it comes to our industry and my colleagues, Tim Garlin and Kevin Parker. We all balance each other out very well. Lastly, the entire Alliance Escrow family as I am super thankful and appreciative of them.
